Prince Harry has been living in Meghan Markle’s shadow for a while now, says one royal expert, who believes he may prefer to be out of the spotlight.
Speaking exclusively to Mirror US, Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and Professor at Royal Holloway, talked about the dynamic between Harry and Meghan and how it benefits the Duke in his pursuit of a royal reconciliation.
Maclaran said of the second series of Netflix’s With Love, Meghan : “I think Meghan’s second season has put the focus on her rather than Harry at present, although I also think she has been overshadowing him for quite a while now.”

Maclaran explained: “We seem to hear less and less about him and lots about her jam and flower sprinkles!”
She added: “However, Harry is probably happy to step out of the spotlight and it will give less opportunity for him to make any royal faux pas that are going to alienate him further from his family in the UK.”
The second season of Meghan’s Netflix series premiered last week, and based on Maclaran’s assessment, it may have given Harry a break from the critics as he prepares for his trip to the UK.
We spoke to Maclaran about whether or not there’s anything Harry can do going into the meeting with his father, which is expected to take place on September 8.
She said: “I think if he just assumes the role of concerned son, rather than critic or victim, he is more likely to repair the relationship with his father, by appealing to the King’s paternal instinct.”
According to Maclaran, it appears both the King and Harry believe it’s time to meet and she predicts both the King and Harry “will be nervous about how things will evolve.”
“There is much to mend and the King will be very mindful that whatever he says to Harry privately,” she added.
