A former royal butler has said that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship reminds him of another iconic royal couple, who were also best friends

A former royal butler compared William and Kate to another iconic pairing, earlier this week. Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have known each other for more than 20 years, their relationship developing from friendship at university into marriage and family life in the public eye.
The couple first met while studying at the University of St Andrews, where they lived together with friends before beginning a romance. After a brief split in 2007, they reunited, and in 2011, they were married at Westminster Abbey in a ceremony watched by millions around the world.
Now parents to three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, they celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary earlier this year. William, who holds the title of Prince of Wales, is the heir to the throne, with Catherine expected to become queen consort in the future.

Grant Harrold, a former royal butler who worked for King Charles between 2004 and 2011 when he was Prince of Wales, recalled seeing the early stages of William and Catherine’s relationship. Speaking at a London event on Monday, he said their bond has long stood out for its strength and partnership.

“When you saw them together and see them get on as friends, although they were in love, they are also absolutely best friends,” Harrold said, according to People, as reported by the Express UK
“They remind me of the Queen and Prince Philip. Their relationship was similar. They were best friends who worked together as a team.”
William has previously described friendship as the foundation of their marriage. In their 2010 engagement interview, he noted that their connection grew naturally from their time living together at university before it became romantic.
William, who holds the title of Prince of Wales, is the heir to the throne, with Catherine, also known as Kate, expected to become queen consort in the future.
Both carry out royal duties, supporting a wide range of charitable initiatives.
William has focused on causes including mental health awareness, conservation and homelessness, while Catherine is closely associated with work on early childhood development and family wellbeing.
