Venus Williams Speaks Out After 2025 US Open Defeat | E! News

Venus Williams is speaking out shortly after the tennis star lost her August 25th first round match against Karolina Muhava at the 2025 US Open. She details how liberating it felt to be back on the court following her 2-year hiatus. As she tells reporters, “I definitely had a bit of a slow start, but it’s not really a bad thing. I just haven’t played a lot of matches, so I’m still finding everything. I didn’t win today, but I’m very proud of how I played.” But the 45-year-old’s return to the US Open wasn’t just about winning. Instead, Venus also wanted to prove that she could compete again after her surgery for uterine fibroids last July. She continues, “I think for me, getting back on the court was about giving myself a chance to play more healthy. When you play unhealthy, it’s in your mind. It’s not just how you feel. You get stuck in your mind, too.” So, it was nice to be freer. And while Venus felt more comfortable on the court, she notes the support she received from the crowd made this comeback even sweeter, sharing, “I don’t think I’ve ever had a crowd that much on my side. When I lost those first two games, they were just still right there with me every point. Didn’t matter if I was losing and it was starting to roll fast. They were just right there with me, and it felt great. [Music]
