University of Kentucky Cheerleader Allegedly Hid Dead Baby in Closet | E! News

A University of Kentucky cheerleader is facing legal trouble. Lake and Ashley Snelling was arrested on August 27th according to a release from the local Lexington police in connection with a dead infant found hidden in a closet. The statement reads, “On Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 around 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched for an unresponsive infant at a residence in the 400 block of Park Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an infant that was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to NBC News, citing police, 21-year-old Snelling has been accused of hiding her infant in order to conceal the recent birth. The college senior was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant per police and was booked into Faget County Detention Center, Lexington, Kentucky. The statement from police said the department’s special victim section would be continuing the investigation and noted the Faget County coroner’s office will release the infant’s cause of death. E-News has attempted to locate a lawyer for Snelling for comment and has reached out to local police for comment but has not yet heard back. The University of Kentucky confirmed in a statement to local NBC affiliate WLEX that Snowelling has been a member of the stunt team for the last three seasons and noted all other questions should be directed to Lexington police. The infant, according to the arrest citation obtained by WLEX, was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag. The citation also noted that Snelling, after being read her Miranda rights, admitted to giving birth to the child. Additionally, per the document obtained by WLEX, Snowelling admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant who was wrapped in a towel. The Guardian, citing public records, noted Snelling was scheduled to make a preliminary court appearance on September 2nd. [Music]

    1. You know what is also so scary is the mental state she was in to think that this was ok to do or right thing to do instead of calling for help or reaching out to parents or someone she trusted. I think sometimes these young ladies have too much pressure about how will things ‘look’ or ‘appear’. You’re having a baby , not robbing a bank. There’s way worse things.

    2. Aren’t there safe drops? She could have just taken the baby to a safe drop place and no one would have had to know and the baby would have been fine and had a life and she wouldn’t have ruined her own life this way

    3. And she's released on a $100k without an ankle monitor and pleads not guilty. Wow. Curious as to what the autopsy finds. Either way, appears she didn't care about the baby, only herself.

    4. Facts missing from this reporting. She was 18 weeks pregnant so it was not fully developed and she did not give birth, she had a miscarriage. She lives in a Kentucky so she is scared because we have seen states like Kentucky criminalize miscarriage repeatly.
