Original article which Paris took umbrage with: https://people.com/colman-domingo-credits-paris-jackson-for-helpful-guidance-michel-jackson-movie-11801241

The film, which stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar (Domingo plays Jackson’s father Joe) has been delayed multiple times, including over the depiction of Jackson’s 1993 molestation allegations, which the estate was prohibited from using in any media on Jackson.

Paris has yet to say what she took issue with in the script.

This is surprisingly un-savvy from Domingo. Like if you’re going to embellish someone’s participation fine, but at least know where they stand and if they’re going to put you on blast. But I don’t think this movie is going to see anything close to the light of day any time soon. Not when everyone is rightly laser focused on another national child sex abuse scandal for which there’s been no justice.

    2. Very curious how they’re going show Joe Jackson in the film. From all accounts he was abusive and a nightmare to his kids. He’d watch them practice and if they missed a single step he would whip them. He made fun of Michael’s nose so badly that if I typed out the nickname he called him I’d be banned.

    3. For all we know, some of her notes could have been passed along to him. He could be clueless to everything else. He says so little in this article that I feel like it could all be a miscommunication.

    4. Frankly his involvement with the film as a whole is disappointing. This man was a pedophile. Let him go

    5. I don’t think what Colman Domingo said necessarily contradicts what happened. Paris read the script and gave notes. To him, that must have been helpful to know what the family thought. He never actually said she was on set. In my opinion, he was trying to express how she was involved, but maybe got a little overly effusive.

I feel like this was a misunderstanding on her part, and maybe some miscommunication / game of telephone that was happening all around.

Why are they even making a movie about this serial child predator in the first place? No fucking thanks.

    7. Ooh I have wondered what she thinks when it comes to him being a serial predator. To be a fly on the wall around that family.

    8. I mean it’s not the thing I want him to be publicly shamed about when it comes to his involvement in this movie but it’ll do.

wait, I thought the movie was being made with the support of Michael’s family? I’m confused

I wonder if the studio mislead him/embellished her involvement and he’s just unknowingly parroting that lie.

Music biopics are almost always awful, but doing one on a rampant pedo is really beyond the pale. Let’s set Paris to the side. If you want to defend this film creatively, Colman citing the family, who stand to benefit from this film and broader sanitizing of his legacy, is not a great defense of the project.

I don’t expect people to stop listening to Michael Jackson, the music is too culturally engrained, but we don’t have to sanitize his legacy either

Coleman seems pretty cool, love his style especially, but why in the world would he attach himself to a project/person mired in controversy?
