This doesn’t look like Wuthering Heights, more like 50 Shades but in the 19th century.

Margot’s very obvious makeup in the close ups is extremely distracting and this doesn’t look like it’s based off the book or set in the right time period. Emerald Fennell should have just made an original movie if this is what she wanted to do.

I say this as someone Margot’s age, I feel like she’s too old to be playing Cathy.

    4. hate it. why can’t we have original erotic thrillers? like body heat, basic instinct, wild things? the closest we’ve come recently is challengers. it’s a shame because the cinematography looks nice.

There’s not much point in complaining that this movie is wildly unfaithful to the novel, because it’s clearly aiming to be some sort of fantastical riff on the story, not a real adaptation. They e even put quotation marks around the title.

It’s still likely to be the same showy, glib, crass nonsense Fennell has previously served up though.

Honestly, I think this might just be loosely inspired by wuthering heights hence the quotation marks. Cause if someone just showed me this, I never would have guessed what it was adapted from

    7. Well visually this eats. Everything else is…….well! I’ll give it a chance anyway but I feel for every fan of Wuthering Heights that wanted an accurate adaptation

The heavy-handed sexual metaphors in that trailer have me rolling, ngl. About as subtle as a sledgehammer between the eyes.

What sad is that in 2025, women can still relate to the gender norms that the Brontë sisters felt in the Victorian Age. You can dress it up in cinema visuals, but modern day women are basically still the Bronte sisters in traditionalist Victorian or MAGA society wanting to shout, “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.”

      It’s depressing.

The booktokification of wuthering heights lol. As a hater of emeralds last two movies my hopes are low and the trailer isn’t helping. Would love if she actually leaded into the extreme toxic and passionate nature of wuthering but I doubt she will it will just be another proactive film with no real core

Sorry but I hate this. Everything is wrong and they just don’t fulfill the unbridled nature of Cathy and heathcliff

Nope. Throw the whole movie in the trash. That’s where it belongs anyway.

Wuthering Heights is my favorite book ever. I literally named my child Catherine after it. I’ve watched the Tom Hardy miniseries more times than I can count. This adaptation does not look like something I want to watch. Margot is way too old to be Cathy (she died at 19, like come on), and Jacob looks too much like a generic white man to play Heathcliff. He would have made a better Edgar.

like, she could’ve just made an original vibey 19th century erotic thriller without adapting the book???

I see they aren’t even going to attempt Yorkshire accents, then? Probably for the best.

    16. The edginess just feels so forced at this point. It’s like they’re fishing for a specific reaction rather than producing something worthwhile.

Ya know, Wuthering Heights is a messy, messy masterpiece, I’m not sure it needs ‘jazzing up’ 😂

    18. Oooo, naive teenage (?!) girl enjoys S&M (?!) sex with teenage (?!) boy, wow subversive, wow, soooo artsty fartsy out there……

Poor Emily Bronte rolling in her grave….

This director willfully understood nothing of the story other than what she could subvert for attentiont and profit

    19. Pile of bollocks. Listen to the audiobook as read by Juliet Stevenson instead. The tune is excellent though.

    20. The quotes around the title say everything. It feels like a film school student trying to be edgy.

    21. What makes Wuthering Heights as good as it is in the yearning, and its depth, and to just decide that yearning must focus on sexual tension is just…so disappointing lmao Emerald why couldn’t you just write your own movie????

Trailers being edited like TikTok fan edits is so interesting to me. I actually enjoyed it a lot. It’s an art that evolves through time. Trailers from the 90s are wildly different too

They made one of the greatest if not the greatest gothic novel of all time into some 50 Shades of Grey shit. I am actually disgusted, I had no hope for it but I just thought it would be bad casting and direction not actually changing the entire plot??? At least name it something else and say that it’s very loosely inspired. She could’ve actually made this exact movie but with her own original characters instead.
