‘SNL’ exodus — 4 cast members out, 5 new faces added for Season 51
I will say the only thing that I’ve started to feel a little bit is just sketch fatigue or idea fatigue in the way that at this point after doing ground leans and SNL for so long I’m like I’ve written a lot of sketches and you know you just get scared and it does happen some weeks where I’m like I do not have an idea. Just 6 months ago Heidi Gardner opened up to Craig Ferguson on his podcast Joy about the pressure of working at SNL. She’s now the biggest name to be leaving the NBC show ahead of season 51 after eight seasons of hilarious characters. Oreo cheesecake. That ain’t going to work. There goes my Easter Sunday. Why would there go your Easter Sunday? And I’m screwed. Although the Post has confirmed Heidi’s exit, she has yet to address the latest news herself. Last week was a blood bath for the cast as news kept pouring in. Devin Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Emil Wim are all departing what Devon called the sometimes toxic as hell show. The firings were apparently to make room for five new featured players, including Ben Marshall. TV viewers will already be familiar with his face as one-third of SNL’s digital shorts team. What’s it like looking like the last three guys a lesbian sleeps with before coming out? Nice. Going to have to do a lot better than that. This is my impression the only line people will care about this show. Ladies and gentlemen, Justin Timberlake. Wait, what’ you say? Sorry, I was just looking at your movies 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. The trio also wrote and starred in the 2023 feature film, Please Don’t Destroy, The Treasure of Foggy Mountain. That is a fullon hawk. Hey buddy, traverse it. Reverse the rock. Does he not know it can fly? Why did it walk away with an attitude? However, Ben’s co-stars were not promoted to the cast. Martin Herily will stay on as a writer and John Higgins will be departing the show. Deadline reports the real life friends who met at NYU will remain a comedy group, but their videos will no longer be a show staple. The other four newly added featured players include Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Kolhane, Cam Patterson, and Veronica Sloakowsk. Tune in October 4th to see these new faces and many of your old favorites.
The “SNL” exodus marches on. Find out which stars are exiting the long-running sketch show ahead of Season 51, and who’s joining the cast as featured players, including one familiar face. Devon Walker called the show “sometimes… toxic as hell” in an Instagram post, and staff writer Celeste Yim threw shade on their way out, too. The season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” airs Oct. 4 on NBC.
