Kelly Clarkson Returns to Social Media After Brandon Blackstock Death | E! News

Kelly Clarkson returns to social media with a heartfelt message after Brandon Blackstock’s death. The talk show host speaks out on Instagram for the first time since the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock with an emotional post to mark the 23 years since she won the first ever season of American Idol. Kelly writes on Instagram September 4th alongside an image of the moment she was announced as the winner. To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you. Winning American Idol changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years. She adds, “It is a gift to find your purpose and passion and to be able to make a living doing it is the cherry on top. Thank you always.” The milestone comes amid a difficult time for her family as Blackstock’s rep confirmed August 7th that he had died at the age of 48 following a cancer battle. Before her American Idol post, Clarkson’s most recent activity on the platform was a message to fans shared the day before Brandon’s passing stating that Kelly was postponing concerts from her Las Vegas residency. She said in the statement, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.” Kelly and Brandon shared two children together, daughter River Rose and son Remington Remy Alexander. He was also dad to two older children with ex-wife Melissa Ashworth. Kelly and Brandon separated in 2020 after 7 years of marriage and finalized their divorce 2 years later. [Music]
