Why ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ Was an Automatic “Yes” for Mila Kunis | TIFF 2025

Yeah. Yeah. No one’s been like, “Tell me, you know, that obligatory question of like, tell me what the movie’s about.” There were big guys outside basically telling them not to. Yeah. Yeah. No, it’s great. So, I would say no. My answer is if someone asked, “What’s the movie about?” I’d go talking to the wrong guy. Yeah. Well, I don’t know. Dead man waking up. Yeah. Um, yeah. Thank you. Someone at last has got it. There’s a dead guy and he’s waking up. I am going to ask you Daniel um how would you describe the vibe on this production? Like I feel like if every movie has sort of a personality, what would this vers what would this additions be versus the first two? What? Because of you? Yes. Mainly because of Yes. mainly because of me. Um each one’s different. a whole bunch of different circumstances where we’re filming all of those things. But um each and every one of these people hit the ground running um and came in bringing just superb wonderful stuff and and so you know I’m like I’m nervous on the first day. Don’t look at me like that. Sorry. It’s really weird. Look over here. Well, that’s weird. Weird. It is a bit weird, but you’re right. It does turn your back. You’re nervous. Is everyone looking to you to be the expert on this one? On this one? I No, I don’t. I think No, because it’s just like we’re all We know what we’re doing. But I think everybody’s coming in wondering who has a tone. How’s it feel? What’s got going on? And And I’m nervous because I’m thinking, well, I want I want everybody to be comfortable. I want everybody to feel like they can have fun. But, you know, look at them. He’s un he’s an unbelievable company leader. He really is. It has to be said. He doesn’t like this, but he really is. He’s a He’s a great company leader. What’s something that was surprising to you about the way he was a good company leader? Something he did. You sort of It’s a comedy, you know, and you you need a relaxed atmosphere. So, um the massage you need the spa treatments. The spa treatments particularly good, right? They’re really good. And the little robes you wore. Oh dear. Hot towel. Every morning. Hot towel. Hot towel. Hot towel. Did anyone obviously like when you get asked to be in a knives out mystery since we’re still using that um does is it an automatic yes or did anyone actually have any questions? It was a fight to get me. I’m going to say that. Yeah. He’s saying this because I said yes without knowing what it was about read the script. I don’t care. I’ll do it. So yes, for me it was a of course didn’t know anything about it and then Ryan went I think you should read it and I went okay. Does anyone share anything in common with their characters that we might not? Obviously, none of you share professions with I hope not. Andrew is plaid, I’d say. Yeah, I like He’s a fan of a lot of things. Andrew is a fan of a lot of things. You’re a fan of a lot of things. You know, he really relates to his character. I’m a big fan of your of your hair. Your character being the I believe you’re the He’s the author. You’re an author. Bestselling author. He’s a fanatic. I don’t know if you know this. He’s a His character is a fanatic. Yeah. Yeah. Jeremy, why do you say God? I hope not. Well, it’s a pretty I play a pretty sad guy. Sad guy. Pretty sad. It’s a pretty sad dad. And so I’m glad I’m not that guy. Did you I’m sure everyone’s asked you this, but like I’m curious if when you saw Did you have to give permission for your face in Glass Onion on the Hot Side? Oh, yeah. Yeah. They they call that that somebody someone called you. Did they actually call? Oh, good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They called and u they told me all about it. I’m like, “Oh, that’s a great idea.” Because I’m I’m such a big hot sauce guy anyway. And then they actually talked about next week where they wanted, “Let me do a little documentary, actually make a little small batch of your own.” I’m like, “Dude, I’d love to.” Didn’t have time to actually make my own hot sauce, but um thought it was such a really cool kind of kind of thing. So, um and then now to be in the the next one is kind of a cool So, it isn’t that just was happen stance or like it was just it just random. It’s a funny bit. It’s a funny bit. If they had said, “Can we use your face?” basic like if you put me in the third one. I know I didn’t I didn’t I didn’t know I I could do that for the next time. Did anyone do anything on this production that they’ve never done before in making a movie? I mean team acting I think that’s I’ve never done that. Yeah. This is all brand new to me. I learned I learned how to play a cello. Never done that. You did? Was it hard? Yeah, it was hard, but I I think I did it. She crushed it. Crushed it. Yes. I know. On the last film, the big talk was that everyone was doing murder mystery. Were they board games or was it um like werewolf? We were playing Mafia. Mafia. Oh, Mafia. But we were locked in a hotel co so we didn’t have anywhere to go. I hate games. I mean, you know. So, no. Were there were no ball games mainly? Yeah. Oh, anything. I mean, this just all things fun. I mean, the co we talk about, you know, kind of an ensemble. I just wanted to get it out there cuz it’s just I’m sick of this, you know. So many no card games. Actually, it’s not Uno. I love Uno. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Do not Oh my god. Don’t take anything Daniel says seriously. Like that’s the lesson in all of this. Like he was stuck with us and he played plenty of games. There’s a bit of back gam. It was Glenn that bought the back. Yeah, we played a bit of um No, there was a lot of things happened. Josh Okconor was showing as a character for quite a while. Yes. And then yeah, he had the same character and you just showed it and then there was jokes. It was like who can tell the funniest jokes? That was a one for a minute. Who could tell the funniest jokes? But they’re all dad jokes. It was like the worst of the best jokes. It was like bad jokes, but who can tell like the worst bad joke? Okay. But there were no board games as far as like Monopoly. But Batman was played. There wasn’t I mean the point about on the previous one is that we like I said we were stuck in a hotel in COVID. So in the evenings that’s where we played the games. But we’re on set at some point someone’s going to get called to the set. So there was no real time for that. Just we just hung out with each other. Um we played the game of life. Oh god. It was very incredibly fun. Was anyone nervous to meet anyone else before day one? Um, Andrew, because I’ve never worked with him before. Yes. Thank you. Thank you, Daniel. That time I was Exactly. I was so excited because we because I’ve never come across you before. So, so exciting to see. Well, I didn’t know anything about what you’ve done. Amazing. Likewise. And you’re really good. D just did an interview where he forgot that he we worked together. Thank you. Thank you so much to Thank you for giving me an interview where he was Adam. Exactly. Adam. Adam. Who? Did you Did you say Did you interrupt him and say like, “Wait, we actually did work together.” He wasn’t there. No, I wasn’t even there. But I was very keen to tell him that I’d done that cuz he did. He was like, “Yeah, I believe just forgot about you. We worked together in this interview.” Okay. What was any Does anyone have a really good first splurge that they gave themselves on like first job, first anything? Like what did you You mean like a gift you bought for yourself? Gift you got for yourself. Yeah. Sheets. Sheets. Good sheets. Feel good sheets. You know sheets and a good mattress. Yeah. Yeah. When I got money, I got good bedding. You spend a third of my life in bed. I’m difference. As an actor, never going to get up in the morning to get Okay, that’s a really good one. Anybody else? Um I bought a car. Oh wow. You went straight to the car. Well, I was 16. I needed a car. You know what I mean? I bought a car. Yeah. Okay. No. Yeah. But you were Yeah. You’ve been working since you were How old how old you started working? Nine. Yeah. Child actor. And then the family doesn’t matter. She actually she bought the car when she was nine. She bought the car when she was nine and waited till it was 16. Yeah. No. 16. My Ford Explorer. Anyone else? Does anyone have a TV show or movie that you like a really classic one that you haven’t seen? a classic one that you haven’t seen. You’ve either pretended to have seen or is like nagging you. I will tell you this. I’m queen of pretending to have seen a lot of things. I’m but so much so that I’ve now convinced myself that I’ve seen those movies and sometimes I don’t even know the truth. I’m like, I think I’ve seen that movie. No, I’ve just lied for 30 years about seeing that movie. And now I no longer know if I’ve actually seen it or not. And one of them, my husband and I both found out. We both lied. And so we were like, “Oh, we should.” And it was Braveheart. And I lied for how when one was Braveheart for I’m sorry I’m just being honest. How have you not seen it? I have seen it now. So we both sat down. You’ve seen it like a hundred times. Well, I didn’t but I’m being honest and I sat down and I watched like and so now I’ve seen Braveheart. Good for you. Thank you. Good. That was a good story. That was not everybody everybody has like a conclusion. Well, and yours had a conclusion like you did something about it. I decided I was going to make an effort to go have I or have I not? And then if I’m not certain, I will sit down and watch it now. Wonderful. Yeah. Um, and what is the most extreme location in which you’ve made a movie or TV show? I mean, I think Iraq. Oh, you win. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good answer. Okay. Yeah, that’s solid. I’m assuming we know which one that is, but were there multiple? Yeah, it was that was definitely um family doesn’t matter. This joke is But we’re getting Luffy. Last chance. Anyone else have a good extreme Fiji? I shot in Fiji. Well, that’s not extremely nice. Well, yeah. Extreme farm. Yeah. All right, guys. All right. All right. I’m just trying to play along. Um, Iceland. No, but I’ve been to Iceland. I love Iceland. Oh my god. Iceland, I think, is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s beautiful. Have not shot there, but love Iceland. What did you make in Iceland? Uh, a little movie show off. What was the movie? Little trip to heaven. Small movie. Little movie called I think it’s a little trip to heaven. I think I don’t remember. It’s a long time ago. I’m going to Google that and we’re going to slap that in in post. Yeah. Yeah. Just say heaven. Yeah. Yeah. Um, okay. Well, we’re out of time and I appreciate your time. Don’t be this, of course. Say that again. Sorry. Go on. I apologize. You can make it. You can [Music]

    1. I guess so many people already said this but now after jeremy renner and daniel craig finally in the same room together they really look like brothers! ๐Ÿ˜„

    2. Love the fact that on the table front and center there's a Hollywood Reporter magazine featuring Keanu Reeves with the caption "Winging it", which is exactly what this brilliant cast is doing with their responses.
