Billy Porter withdraws from Cabaret on Broadway due to a serious case of sepsis. Less than two months after the actor took over as the MC for Cabaret’s Broadway at the Kit Kat Club for its final 13 weeks, he is stepping away from the musical amid an ongoing health battle. The company shares in a statement to Instagram on September 7th, “Due to a serious case of sepsis, Billy Porter must also withdraw from the production. His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery, but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule. With Billy’s unexpected departure, the final curtain call is coming sooner than anticipated for Caparet with Marty Lur and David Marino taking on the role until the final show on September 21st. Before the 55-year-old took the stage in the Broadway production, which was initially set to close on October 19th, he and Marishia Wallace as Sally BS brought the musical to life on London’s West End from January 28th to May 24th. Producer Adam Spears commenced Billy’s work while reflecting on the painful decision to end Cabaret’s run earlier than expected, sharing in a statement per the Hollywood Reporter, “Billy was an extraordinary MC, bringing his signature passion and remarkable talent.
