With four dogs running around and a 2-year-old keeping him on his toes, he admits it feels like living in an insane zoo. Still, he wouldn’t trade it for anything. Professionally, Pelffrey is taking on a complex role in HBO’s new series, Task. He plays Robbie Pendergrass, a sanitation worker and father who secretly robs drug dealers to support his family. The story is gritty and emotional, but at its heart, it’s about love, responsibility, and survival. Kaye Quoko was the first to read the script and immediately told him it was one of the best stories she had ever come across. That encouragement made his decision to join the project an easy one. What drew Pelffrey to the role is the moral conflict of the character. Robbie is not a villain, but a man trying to do the best he can under impossible circumstances. Plefrey says he connected with Robbie’s heart, his love for his family, and his desperation to protect them, even if it means making dangerous choices. Working on the show also gave him the chance to share scenes with Mark Ruffalo, who plays the FBI agent on Robbie’s Trail. Pelfrey praised Ruffalo as generous and kind, someone who made the intense filming process feel like a collaboration instead of a competition. At home, though, Pelffrey’s world is simple. Time with Kaye, their daughter, and their dogs. He describes it as pure happiness. Looking back, he says he feels incredibly lucky to be living this life, acting in roles he loves, while coming home to the family he always dreamed of.
