Prince Harry has given his verdict on his first face-to-face meeting with his father for the first time since February last year.

Harry’s meeting with the King, who is still undergoing treatment for cancer, raised hopes of a long-awaited royal reconciliation between father and son. The Duke of Sussex spent just under an hour at Clarence House in London yesterday evening for the first meeting with King Charles in over 18 months.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme this morning, royal editor for the Sunday Times Roya Nikkhah, gave her verdict on what she believes to be signs that relations between father and son had improved.

The Sunday Times’ royal editor said: “Well the good signs, I think, for both signs are very little. We know they had tea, we know it lasted nearly an hour – which to be honest is twice as long as the last meeting 19 months ago and that’s a good sign.

“And we know when Harry got to his Invictus event last night, he seemed very chipper and very happy.”

The royal expert then repeated Harry’s response when he was asked how his dad was, with the Duke of Sussex saying, “great”.

Harry reportedly left Clarence House in London around 6.15pm. He then made his way to a reception for an event linked to the Invictus Games, which he launched in 2014 as a tournament for injured service personnel and veterans.

It was there the Duke of Sussex made the remarks when he was asked about his father by a reporter shortly after arriving.

The royal expert added: “I think the really positive sign here, hopefully for both sides, is that we’ve not had a post-match analysis from Harry’s side so far.

“That sort of briefing, in terms of personal relationships and private meetings, is the thing that’s made the King very wary about having this meeting.”
