‘Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale’ Ep. 5 recap | Werk Room Weekly

D for what? D for mu. I’m Jason. I’m Brian. And welcome back to Workroom Weekly. We finally got it right. We said it right this time. I’m so sorry for mixing it up. This was not a form of rage baiting to get you guys to comment. We love your comments. We love your views. Welcome back to Workroom Weekly episode five. Oh my goodness. uh the Slian Royale train keeps rolling into the station. Baby, we’re full steam ahead. Uh we get into this episode and we find out that Bringing also picked Kitty’s lipstick. Kitty was the one who went home and you know, she says that she really hopes that Bernie doesn’t waste her second chance and she hopes that she really brings it. Uh what was your thought on the elimination? It feels like, you know, there’s tension in the room about the international queens getting, you know, karate chopped off one by one. Yeah. So, that to me, I feel like the curse needs to be broken this week. They’re they’re really trying to like think what is the strategy going forward. This even carries on the next morning when they come into the work room. Yeah. I hate the lipstick format. You know, I want things to be fair and clearly the queens do too because they say, “Oh, it should be on track record.” Except that was blown up immediately and suddenly it’s about friendship. Suddenly it’s about whose lipstick uh was pulled against you and it’s revenge. So we have a lot of emotions, you know, riding high at this point. Yeah. It’s like who wants to be there? They were saying like who wants to fight for it, which I think most of these girls want to be there. So I I don’t really know why that would be a criteria. People were getting butt hurt. Kiana was like uh I forget who she said it to, but she was like, “You you said I wasn’t going to be in the top four.” This was a side conversation. That’s crazy. Someone was like, “Who do you want Bernie top four? Who do you see top four?” And Bernie said herself and three other of the queens. And Kiana was left out of that and she was upset. No, she named all the Filipino girls except for Kiana, which is crazy. Like actually crazy. Kiana is your pick for the win. Yes. And you know, we’ll get into it later in the episode, but you know, I do think Bernie is the least strong of the Filipina girls. Um, but I mean to say that you don’t see Kiana in that top four is actually crazy. But um, so we go into this week’s uh, mini challenge. Mama Pow arrives in the workroom. I feel like every week now we have to acknowledge these outfits that she’s wearing. Um, two dead chickens on her uh, like kilt pants suit kind of vibe. Even in this is sort of a a Tom Brown, you know, kind of muted gray look and still look fabulous. Yeah. Uh, I’m so obsessed with her. I want to meet her so badly. I mean, you know you’re a star when every time you walk into the room, the entire cast starts singing your name. I mean, this is not a TJI Fridays and it’s not your birthday and people are singing for you. She’s literally mother. Mama, we love you. Um, so the mini challenge this week is that the girls have to get into spider gay, which is Yes. This is Gdumpa Ding. Okay. Which is the word for spider gay, which is now my Halloween costume. Yep, we found it. So, it’ll be our couple’s costume. Uh, so they have to get in spider gay quick drag. I love how for every mini challenge they make them get in quick drag. I want to see these busted, crusted, rusted looks, and the girls absolutely deliver it every single time. So, essentially what this entails is they have to balance on like a giant log and they have to pair up and duel with one each one another and try to knock each other off. I’ve like played this as a kid. Absolutely. You know, they’re also in these like fuzzy onesies, these like kind of fleshcoled spider onesies and this is very American Gladiators. And tensions were high because some of the girls are teeny tiny. Yeah. And they kept saying like some of the girls are strong. Like they are like, you know, knocking the girls to high heaven, which I mean that’s what you got to do. This is, you know, brute strength. This is what is going to get you on top in this mini challenge. It doesn’t surprise me that, you know, the the beast of the season, Kiana, wins this whole thing. Yes. Because she is she is strong. Yes. Oh my gosh. You know, H, you said you were a little concerned about her riding in the back seat. She’s back. She’s in control. She’s in the driver’s seat. Just give her a foam padded mallet and she’ll take out the whole cast. She will beat the entire cast to the top. Um, so she gets an advantage going into our maxi challenge, which I loved this. This was so amazing. Makeover challenge, but not just any makeover challenge. The girls are put in pairs and they have to transform balik bions, which are OFW or overseas Filipino workers who are coming home. And they’re coming home for their homecoming night. So, the girls have to pair up and glamorize and give these incredible women a one night fantasy. And this is a huge part of Filipino culture. But UA, who’s our token American liaison, you admitted on the episode, I’d never even heard of this. But this is such a huge part about the global economy is run by all of these Filipino women who are working on cruise ships. They’re nannies. They’re they’re working in in East Asia, Japan, all over the world, and hospitals in the United States. I mean, they are the global workforce and often go unnoticed and, you know, this was their chance to to be seen as heroes and to also get a fun drag makeover. Yes. No, I again, I just love all of these challenges seem so intentional, you know, like they are just so smart and they, you know, especially for like us who, you know, aren’t from the Philippines, who don’t get to, you know, be immersed in this culture, you know, to be able to learn from watching this series is just so special. Most of the cast, most of the Filipino cast had a personal experience with their mother or their aunt or their sister with this, you know, um, this economy and, you know, Venus is barely able to talk explaining her story. I mean, I was I was crying alongside No, exactly. Arizona’s mom, Venus’s mom, her two sisters. I mean, these women are just like so strong, so selfless, and their stories were just a gut punch. I mean, one of the, you know, contestants, I guess we’d call them, one of the the women, you know, said that her biological child, you know, would kind of give her the cold shoulder when she’d come home because she was the children were being raised by her sister, you know, their aunt, and just just breaks your heart. Yeah. But I’m so excited that they get to be celebrated in this challenge, and they really do deliver. Um, so let’s so quickly the pairs for this episode were so we had Venus and Kiana, we had Bringading and Suki Doll, Arizona and Bernie, Sam and UA. There was a little bit of like switching around uh based on the advantage that Kiana had in the mini challenge. But those were the four that we ended up with here uh for the challenge. It was good to see the the Filipino and the international queens mixing it up. Yes. You know, we’re no longer, you know, the the two sides. I love seeing the click the clicks are done. No, we’re done. So, on this week’s uh runway, we do have Mama Pow coming back. I loved this wig on her. She looks so good. Like, with this bang, she just looks oh my gosh, I’m just so obsessed with her. She looks like a pop star. She looks like Marina. She looks I mean, she is stunning. And then on this week’s episode, we had guest judges, winner of Drag Race Philippines season 2, Captivating Cat Cat, and winner of Global Allstars, Alyssa Edwards. Mama, she’s made her way to Manila. She’s there. If you invite Alyssa to the Philippines, she’s going to get on that plane. She has touched down girl. So the category for you know this challenge was homecoming gala night. There’s only four of them. Pronounced it gayla or gayla. Gayla. It was the I never know. Is it gala? Gayla. Gala. Knowing them it was probably Gayla. You know with with all the puns and funny funny things we’ve gotten this season. Um but there’s only four of them. So I think we can like run through them. Absolutely. First up we had Venus and Kiana. This was my favorite. I’m a lamb. I screamed when I saw three Mariah Carries. Not one, not two, but three Mariah Carries. And I was like, how did they pull this off so well? Obviously Kiana with the huge fake boobs. So funny. And the the red, the Christmas red. But to me, it was the eyebrows. It never occurred to me that Mariah’s eyebrows were still so like 2000s thin. Yeah. Until I saw it on Three Drag Queens. Yeah. This was awesome. I literally thought I was at like Madam Tusad’s Wax Museum. When they turned that corner, I was like, “What are we doing?” But they were so fun. This was so cute. They had like Mariah with a K, Mariah Mckilling, and Mariah Ozawa. Like just like so good. So fun. And of course, we’re just coming off of here in the States, you know, Mariah getting the video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs. Mariah has an album out in two weeks. Can you tell? I’m a fan. Yes. You know, you’re keeping up. And they timed this perfectly. Then we had Briting and Suki Doll, which this was my personal favorite. Um, not only did I love this like primary color, them doing like a dance with it, them doing like a little skit with um the the the mom kind of, you know, kind of touching them and kind of, you know, poking at them. I just loved it. Like I got a story from it. It was so beautiful. The craftsmanship of these outfits, flexing her fashion muscles behind the scenes. She is one to watch. I mean, silhouette was really was unique and beautiful. It was so beautiful. I also loved um the uh the OFW’s uh drag name, Bevelicious D. And they questioned what was the D standing for? Was it ding? Was it dong? Was it dirty? What does D means? It’s big dirty. She said big dirty. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Uh just awesome. Like so. I mean, the Filipino sense of humor is just so runchy. Yeah, it’s awesome. And then we had Arizona and Bernie. These this trio looked straight out of like crazy slayions. I loved it. I mean, you know, these end up being our bottoms for the week, which I don’t agree with. No, this was like dynasty. This was Alyssa Edwards was living for this. This is something that Alyssa would want to go for. You know, this is the the hair, the makeup, you know, it was designing women, right? It was so elegant. It was so glamorous. I know they were saying that these were just a slip dress, but like girl, they looked perfection. I I honestly couldn’t believe that these were the this was the weakest team, but then Suki Doll explained later at the end of the day, it’s just a stretch dress, which I guess to other drag queens, it feels like a little bit of a copout. Yeah, I guess I don’t care. I I still loved it. I still thought it was really good. And then lastly, we had Siam and UA. They were going for this like traditional Chinese empress look. This is probably what I would have put in the bottom. I don’t know. I think there was a lot going on in these looks. I didn’t get it. I didn’t understand why there was there were kind of like a beehive. Yeah. Like an extra fascinator around their head. Yeah. It just I didn’t get it. I actually didn’t Yeah. I don’t Maybe I didn’t know the reference. I know. Yeah. I think this could have had a little bit of editing done to it, you know? I think the maximalism that Bringing and Suki Doll brought like they perfectly kind of achieved that where this was like we could have benefited from taking one thing off before we hit the runway. Um so this would have been my personal pick for the bottom two. Oh, so they maybe had the weakest person to make over. Yeah. You know, you’ve got these three kind of older women, you know, these OFWs and then the their their makeover challenge contestant was, you know, someone like our age Yeah. who works in Thailand in marketing. Like she’s they introduced her as a vlogger and you know her story was much less emotional. You know my heartstrings were not pulled so hard for her. I was like I think she’s just has a job in another country like it didn’t feel like you know the same the same story. But you know I agree this should have been the bottom. Yeah. But we end up with our tops being bringing in Suki Doll which I was happy with and like I said the bottoms were Arizona and Bernie. Um, I don’t know. Like you said, I I think I would have maybe switched this around a little bit. Yeah. Everyone was living for the 1980s villains. I loved it. The performance was there and their, you know, makeover challenge, you know, fem fatal was like eating it up on the stage, which is, you know, in the US version of the show, when there’s a makeover challenge and someone’s really thriving, you know, Rupaul always asks them like, “How does it feel to be in drag? Like, is this the new you?” Yeah. And I think that’s what happened here. And it’s weird that they were in the bottom for me. Yeah. So, we get our lip sync for this week, which is Room by Stell. I wasn’t familiar with the song. New to me. But this lip sync, dare I say best of the season so far. Without a doubt. Without Without a doubt. We got a little Is it called Kai Kai? Oh, when two drag queens it usually I’m not a fan of when the girls interact with each other in a lip sync. I like kind of seeing their independent like commanding of the stage, but this was captivating from the moment when they’re like the synchronicity of them like doing the back bends and then doing it looked like a choreographed number. It was so good. And like you said, once we got into that final moment, were they going to kiss? And then they didn’t just kiss, they full on made out, baby. They were climbing on top of each other, the girls in the back were couldn’t even I thought they were going to storm the stage. It was so fun. And these two had sort of teased it at the beginning of the episode where they’re like, who do I send home? Is it like my, you know, my friend or my crush? Yeah. Like, so there’s been some chemistry between Suki and Brig. Yeah. from the beginning, I think. So, we don’t know what’s happening at the motel. You know, of course, Brigading wins. Yeah, I I do agree with this. I think she was like she was bringing the energy. She was bringing, you know, the the all the elements needed to really take this lip sync home, I would say. So, we of course have to send one queen home. And sadly, the lipstick that was pulled was Bernie. This, like I said at the beginning of the episode, I think makes sense. The die was set. I think the it was, you know, we had to have start seeing these Filipino girls go home and I think Bernie was the one who I would have probably picked first. So, while I am sad, I I think this was the right decision. Yeah, it’s like 2016 all over again. Bye, Bernie. Um, and I can’t wait for next week. Yeah, it’s getting whittleled down, babe. We’re We’re I’m so excited. This is It’s so good. like we’re finally getting, you know, some queens from the Filipina side out. So, we we’ll have to see who’s up next. All right. So, don’t uh miss Workroom Weekly next week. We’ll see you there. Bye.

    1. You guys deserve my praise. I just subscribed to your channel. I learned and enjoyed it a lot. Your videos will help me to improve my english skills, hahah. Thank you for appreciating our Queens and the show. ❤❤❤❤

    2. Why has Yuhuanever been inthe bottom? This is supposed to be Asian excellence and when did she show that during the show? I like Yuhua but it'sunfair for the safe queens when she clearly is just getting by…. at least Siam is trying her best

    3. I was hooked at Suki the whole time. What is the probelm with teh judging here? Khianna has been giving top energy and she's safe with Yuhua? Bernie has better runways than Yuhua….

    4. Do you need a blow by blow account of the struggles of my friend, Angelique? The one whom you said has no struggle as an OFW? Do not minimize their story and struggle just because you saw less tears…or you were made to see few tears…

    5. Brigiding and Suki with their OFW’s dress is called terno-a Philippine traditional attire for women.

I would like to see what did Suki prepared for this Challenge, for sure it’s a fire too.

    6. vinas and khianna's team are my faves. they did mariah carey coz vinas is well-known for doing impersonations of her. the guest's name name was "mariah ozawa", from mariah carey and maria ozawa, a japanese adult film actress who became famous in the philippines (which makes sense coz the guest was an ofw in japan).

    7. For context, production already knew about Jiggly’s passing during filming, but they decided not to tell Bernie—who was actually the closest to Jiggly—because it would have affected her mindset and focus in the competition. She only found out after she was eliminated, most likely at the hotel(?). Mama Pao, on the other hand, was only told about the news right before the lipsync and elimination. And it makes sense—yes, he would still do his job, but as everyone knows, he wouldn’t have been able to hold back his emotions. That’s why he was already in tears when he announced Bernie’s elimination. When he said, “We love you, Jiggly” (or something along those lines), that was probably the moment the queens themselves realized what had happened(?). You could even see Katkat’s face change, as if she had also cried, and Khianna was in tears when she hugged Ari. It was especially heartbreaking for Ari, since Jiggly was the very first drag queen she knew—even before she started drag—and was actually her biggest inspiration. And just to note, the queens don’t have access to social media, TV, or phones during the competition, so they only learn about things like this once production tells them.

    8. From watching old to new Drag Race recaps/reactions, I realized there’s a big difference — some people actually watch and talk about the episodes, while others just react for the sake of reacting. 😂 Page Six really take a closer look with the episodes, and I love that you guys aren’t rage-baiters, haha! sorry it took me this episode to subscribed. cheers to more future drag race reactions and love love love Virtual Reali-Tea

    9. WHO CARES ABOUT TRACK RECORD it’s an “All stars” kind of season friendships and alliances are going to factor in lol it’s bound to happen I love it when they don’t do it off track record IM HERE FOR THE DRAMA
