    1. And that’s exactly what the other side wants.

You to be scared of speaking up against their hate.

It doesn’t sound like he’s backing down from speaking important opinions, just remarking that it’s a volatile climate and he’s often forced to opine when asked.

Don’t go on a show create your own CABLE channel like Fox News and you can do whatever the hell you want.

    4. >Tennant said he hopes he does not censor his views, but open debate has become more challenging amid the rise of populism.

      Yeah, thats fair. It has.

This is a most natural human reaction given the nature of public discussion. I hope that both he and everyone else are able to share their views without fear of toxic backlash, allowing for civil disagreements.

You can’t expect everyone to immediately accept new rights, even though it is the right thing to do; it often takes time for society to accept expanding equal rights to all people, much like how it took many years for women’s right to vote to become widely accepted. I hope he is able to continue to speak about his views on this.

    6. I’m fairly certain one of his kids is trans or non-binary too. He’s one of the biggest allies to the trans communities. I don’t blame him for being afraid. It’s alright for people to be “well that’s what they want!” but it sounds like he isn’t backing down, just noting that it’s more volatile these days.

    7. No one should be scared to speak about anything, censorship is a plague and ANYONE should be able to agree on that

I have the opposite issue. I have entered my “middle-aged white lady who doesn’t give a fuck” era. I think I use my powers/delusions for good (i.e. human rights issues)… but what are people going to do to me? I really just don’t even care anymore.

All the information about bullying out there tells us that bullies tend to stop when they’re confronted by other people. That’s a bit different online (so thank god that I have no problem with face-to-face confrontation), but the premise is still the same.

    9. His failure to condemn Gaiman despite his continued involvement with Good Omens says a lot to be honest.
