Nice gesture, would be even nicer if they actually did something to help palestinian people.

Obviously not enough. But a moment of silence for the zionists having meltdowns rn over a gesture.

Good. I was so worried my own country (UK) would bow to pressure from the US and the right wing press here. It’s obviously not a huge step but it IS a step and I’ll take it.

All we need to do now is stop arresting people for wanting an end to genocide… or maybe stop supplying weapons of war to countries who bomb hospitals… but this is a start at least

Portugal is expected to follow today as well, with France and Saudi Arabia to formally recognise at the UN tomorrow.

Breaking news: country that has been a country for a really long time is in fact a country, despite everything we’ve been doing to erase it and its people from existence.

Now can they formally stop arming Israel

I believe Palestine will be free in my lifetime. insh’Allah

I find this a bit hollow when people are still being targeted in these countries for supporting Palestine. Like wasn’t the whole thing with Sally Rooney like last week?

All this talk about Canada recognizing them was conditional on surrender and the PA getting full power so we will see if this even means anything for us
ladevotchka on
The main immediate benefit of this recognition will be to stand in the way of annexation of the West Bank. But we are in an era where international law has become almost completely meaningless. Aslong as the west keeps sending weapons to Israel, this is just political theater.

Still can’t believe this had to happen and is somehow controversial. Like wiping out a country and its inhabitants is totally fine. What the fuck is going on

They dragged their feet as long as they could. Now that Israel is speedrunning final stages of genocide, these “good” countries are shifting gears to gaslight the public/history about their very obvious assistance in the mass murder/genocide of Palestinians. It won’t work. They need to stop arming Israel and place crippling sanctions on everything
edit: and they need to focus on curbing Israel’s actions in the region at large. How many countries is Israel bombing now? Lebanaon, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Qatar. Shows how stupid Western countries are to think this is necessary for “peace”
Federal_Street_8895 on
This only matters insofar as it is making zionists very angry which is definitely a good thing but all these countries continue to arm and provide cover for a genocidal state which in its officials own words is actively working against destroying any possibility of a Palestinian state.
Might as well recognize the State of Narnia for all the good it’ll do if you’re not willing to impose a real and practical cost on Israel

Oh man, I can’t wait for them to stop people protesting for Palestine and against sending another billion dollars of weapons to Israel!
