A lot of the reviews did not like the Boys and Girls Club uh thing. Emy’s host Nate Baretti responds to backlash over his onair donation bit. During the comedian’s firsttime stint as host of the September 14th ceremony on CBS, he devised a bid to help keep acceptance speeches shorter, promising to deduct money from a $100,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of America for every second a speech went over the 45se secondond mark, but adding to the pot if they kept things short. he explains on the September 24th episode of his Natland podcast. A lot of the reviews did not like the Boys and Girls Club uh thing. But I didn’t uh I want it came from a a real place of heart. That’s all I want. And I Everybody at home loved it. Everybody at home liked it. It was fun. It was entertaining seeing money go down and all this. I thought it would be a fun I kind of in my head I wasn’t trying to put anybody on the spot. I wasn’t trying to make someone donate money. I But in my head, I kind of thought like, make it fun. Every second you go under or over, I’m sorry. Every second you go over 45 seconds, we will deduct $1,000 away from the Boys and Girls Club. I know. I know. And Nate clarifies that he wasn’t trying to use the charity as a quote tool, but instead thought it would be a good solution to the problem of long speeches that also helped raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. But Nate says a few things were unexpected. I honestly what thought I thought would happen in the room and I thought it was I thought it was going to be you know I don’t know Netflix donating or Apple like you know the the shows that won. It wasn’t even making it’s not like I expected that kid to give money which I covered for that kid but it’s like I I kind of thought that’s what would happen. They could then go long but then be a hero. So it was like a win-win. So, it was like, and then the night becomes about love and you’re giving to these kids that are there and this all this kind of stuff. And I don’t know if I just didn’t explain it enough in the room. At the end of the ceremony, the donation pot was in the red at $60,000, which prompted Nate to pledge a $250,000 donation himself, plus an additional $100,000 from CBS, which the Boys and Girls Club was incredibly appreciative of. But personally donating that money came as a bit of a surprise to Nate. I wasn’t going to give that money at the end. Like I wasn’t thinking I was going to have to but the way it went I was like well I can’t you know u we I’m not going to not you know and but yeah then a lot of people boys and girls club were awesome. They got it. They were pumped about all this. They were pumped about they got it like they knew there’s no ill will. There’s no any it’s like just trying to I was trying to have a very uh giving night. [Music]
