‘Law & Order: SVU’ Kills Off Major Character in Season 27 Premiere | E! News
It’s the end of watch for a longtime favorite on Law and Order SVU. Warning, there are spoilers ahead. Season 27 of the NBC drama opened with the devastating death of Captain Craig, played by Dan Floruric, a beloved father figure, mentor, and glue of the precinct. While Kra’s cause of death is never explained in the episode, the squad gathers to watch his final words on a screen during his funeral. I left for my job. I don’t think that surprises anybody and I can’t imagine my life any other way. The somber gathering also served as a catalyst for appearances of past SBU guest stars with former precinct faces coming back to pay their respects like special agent George Wang, former SVU detective Brian Cassidy, and Detective Elliot Stabler. Feel like we’re entering into our all our friends are dying era. Though Craig had retired from the squad in season 15, he still made appearances throughout subsequent seasons and SVU’s spin-off Law and Order: Organized Crime. SVU fans were buzzing when Christopher Maloney, whose Elliot Stabler character is now handling the cases on the spin-off, posted set photos with Craig’s Dan Floric and Marisha Hargatee in August. Recently, Michelle Fezicus, who was a writer on the NBC cop drama for more than two decades before becoming its season 27 showrunner, teased some major storyline changes, particularly for Marishka’s Captain Olivia Benson, telling people in a September 24th interview, quote, “In some ways, I’m going back to when I was on the show, which was like seasons 3 through 7. I remember what we were doing then that worked well. It’s like, all right, we’re going to bring some of that back. [Music]
