James Van Der Beek Praises Daughter Singing at ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reunion For Birthday Post

[Music] James Vanderbeek is sharing the sweetest message for his daughter on her birthday. On Thursday, James made an Instagram post celebrating his daughter Olivia’s 15th birthday. The actor reflected on her singing Paula Cole’s I Don’t Want to Wait alongside his former castmates at the Dawson’s Creek reunion event on Monday, saying, quote, “To watch you stand there in that red dress so confidently taking center stage amidst all those people I’ve known so long and cherished so deeply, I’m just left in awe. So open up your more than life [Music] and see the peace in every. [Music] The dad of six also joked about his firstborn being so self-sufficient she’s quote parent proof. And he offered some fatherly words of advice. Keep taking big swings, kiddo. risk imperfection. Keep dreaming big. And most importantly, be true to who you are. Because while only you will know exactly who your most authentic self will be as someone who’s known you your whole life, I can guarantee you’re going to love her. James, who led the late ‘9s, early 2000s teen drama, was scheduled to attend Monday’s Dawson’s Creek reunion, but he had to pull out at the last minute due to illness. However, he surprised the cast and audience with an emotional video message. [Music] Guys, I have been looking forward to this night for months and months and months, ever since my angel Michelle Williams said she was putting it together. Um, I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to hug my castmates, my beautiful cast in person. Um, and just I wanted to stand on the stage and thank every single person in this theater for being here tonight from the cast to the crew to everybody who’s donated time and been so generous and especially every single last one of you the best fans in the world. Thank you for coming on. It’s timeless enthusiasm for this night. And uh I just want to say thank you. Thank you to every single person here. Tickets to the reunion raised funds for Fancer, which is quote dedicated to advancing health equity through early detection and prevention programs and by providing resources to navigate, manage, and cope with cancer. James was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2024. [Music]
