James Van Der Beek Reacts to Daughter’s Dawson’s Creek Performance | E! News
James Vanderbeek is one proud dad. When the Dawson’s Creek star, who is battling stage three colurectal cancer, was unable to attend the September 22nd series reunion amid health challenges, his wife Kimberly Vanderbeek, and their six children stepped up to the plate along with James’ co-stars Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson, and more to support him and the organization F Cancer. In a September 25th Instagram post featuring a clip from the performance, James says he was especially touched by his eldest daughter, Olivia Vanderbeek, singing a solo during the performance of the series theme song during the event, which came ahead of her birthday. He writes, quote, “My oldest turned 15 today, same age that Dawson was in the pilot. To watch you stand there in that red dress so confidently taking center stage amidst all those people I’ve known so long and cherished so deeply, I’m just left in awe.” He continues, quote, “I’ve always joked that you came out parent proof, but this last year, as I’ve watched you accelerate into so many big decisions, jump into so many activities, budget your time, do your homework and your hair, which from my point of view seemed to require roughly the same amount of time and focus, the less I think the parent proof thing is a joke.” And as a final note, on his daughter’s birthday, James, who’s also dad to Joshua, Annabelle, Amelia, Gwendalin, and Jeremiah, shared some loving advice. He writes, quote, “Keep taking big swings, kiddo. Risk imperfection. Keep dreaming big. And most importantly, be true to who you are. Because while only you will know exactly who your most authentic self will be, as someone who’s known you your whole life, I can guarantee you’re going to love her.
