Scarlett Johansson says discomfort as first-time director on ‘Eleanor The Great’ was a good thing

What made you decide that this was going to be your territorial debut? You know, honestly, I was so curious about what June Script wanted to star in at this stage in her career, and I didn’t have any expectations of what the story was going to be about. Um, and honestly, it started out as such, you know, it was a lot of, you know, dry comedy, of course, a tragic loss, but then the film takes such a, uh, unexpected turn and the stakes was so high. Um, you know, I just leaned into that and I was so invested in the outcome of the story and it just doesn’t happen that you have that experience reading a script regularly. Um, I knew it was something very special. Well, um, did you feel immediately comfortable directing or any nerks on the Did you throw up the first day? Um, I was I mean, of course there, you know, I I I don’t know that I was immediately comfortable. I don’t know that I’m ever immediately talked about, but that’s good. If I was immediately comfortable, then it would probably be not the right thing. Um, so I yeah, I mean I it was a bit of a learning curve, you know, the first week and a half, two weeks, but then, you know, I think once the crew familiarizes themselves with one another and you understand what’s what’s required of you on any shooting day, then it gets easier, you know, I wouldn’t say easier, but it gets more fun. Do you feel like this is something you want to like do you see yourself mainly directing instead of acting? you know, I would love to have the opportunity to direct the event. Yeah. And you know, if if it if it happens, um, you know, there’s it’s an amazing I know, amazing amazing opportunity that really I don’t take for granted. So hopefully someday, yes, I will. My last question is, you are the best uh advertisement, walking advertisement for your skinincare line. Like this I it’s it’s perfect. This Thank you. Thank you. Yes, I uh yeah, I was saying that today. I was like I think I honestly having used the outset every day and that’s the only product that I use for years um you really see the results every year and I I mean I stand by our our product. I love the brand and it’s a whole other business, a whole other uh you know whole other uh environment we’re here to work in which is very exciting too.

Scarlett Johansson thinks it was a “good” thing that she wasn’t “immediately comfortable” when she walked on set to direct “Eleanor the Great.”

“If I were immediately comfortable, then it would probably not be the right thing,” she told Page Six at a Cinema Society screening of “Eleanor the Great” on Wednesday night.

However, her nerves dissipated after a couple of weeks. “Once the crew familiarizes themselves with one another and you understand more what’s required of you on any shooting day, then it gets easier,” she said.

“I wouldn’t say easier, but it gets more comfortable.”
