During an episode of season two of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex professed that she missed listening to Magic FM while she was in Britain – a confession which has led to a surprising job offer. Speaking at Radiocentre’s Tuning In conference, Magic content director Paul Sylvester responded to Meghan’s praise of the station by making her a proposal. ‘We had conversations with the Sussex team and if the Duchess would like to add radio presenter to her CV there is an offer on the table.’ Meanwhile he also confirmed that Magic had ‘been in with her team and offered her a show, if she ever wanted one’.

Known for playing easy listening, Eighties music, Magic FM might sound like a surprising choice of station for Meghan Markle – but the Duchess insisted to her guest on the episode, Tan France, that it was her favourite. Tan referred to it as ‘such a grandma station’, to which Meghan jokingly replied: ‘I’ll be that grandma’.
It had seemed as if the Sussexes’ ties with Britain were all but severed, after a multi-year legal challenge by Prince Harry to a 2020 decision that denied his family automatic taxpayer-funded police protection while in Britain was finally laid to rest by a court ruling. In the ITV1 documentary Tabloids on Trial, the Prince explained that, without that protection, he felt it was too dangerous to bring Meghan to the UK. ‘All it takes is one lone actor, one person who read this stuff, to act on what they have read,’ Harry said. ‘And whether that is a knife or acid … they are genuine concerns for me, they are one of the reasons I won’t bring my wife back to this country.’
