The Prince and Princess of Wales are both known for their love of the sport. In 2007, in the early days of their romance, the then Prince William and Kate Middleton joined Prince Harry to watch England vs Italy in a Six Nations match at Twickenham. The trio returned to the stadium in 2015 for England vs Wales in the Rugby World Cup. Kate was named patron of the Rugby Football Union in 2022, after Prince Harry was forced to give up the position as part of the ‘Megxit’ deal.

Catherine and Prince William were joined by Prince George at the Six Nations in 2022 and in 2023 watched Wales and England go head-to-head in the 2023 edition of the tournament. (The Princess of Wales also made headlines after channelling one of Princess Diana’s most memorable outfits).

They even previously joined Princess Anne for a special appearance on Mike Tindall’s podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby with his co-hosts, James Haskell and Alex Payne. At the time, Kate Middleton and Prince William spoke of playing rugby as youngsters with the Princess teasing her husband over his school memories of the sport. ‘I love rugby … I played at school, I loved it,’ William said, with Kate playfully responding, ‘Did you?’
