On September 30, British Princess Anne visited Kyiv on an unannounced visit. During the trip she met with veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, visited the War Museum, and spoke with children who had lived through the occupation. The princess also participated in commemorations for the fallen, and beforehand she had a meeting with the President and the First Lady of Ukraine.
According to Buckingham Palace, the main aim of the visit was to draw attention to the traumatic experiences of children living on the front line.
Key episodes of the visit
Anne visited the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War and St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. Together with Olena Zelenska they honored the memory of children who died as a result of shelling, leaving a symbol of remembrance beside the memorial.
The princess also visited a rehabilitation center for Ukrainian servicemembers and the Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights, where she spoke with children who had lived through the occupation. She met female police officers and officers of the Armed Forces who work to protect women and children.
During the meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussions covered the UK’s support for Ukraine and further coordination of assistance.
As part of the visit, an official statement from British sources was issued regarding the aim to improve cooperation between the two countries in humanitarian and security fields.
“The aim of Anne’s visit was to draw attention to the traumatic experiences of children living on the front line,” Buckingham Palace told a British broadcaster.

In addition, it is worth noting that Anne had previously visited Kyiv several times: in 1973 she participated in equestrian competitions related to Great Britain. Her charitable work and leadership of Save the Children UK since 1970 have helped to better understand the needs of children worldwide.
It is also worth mentioning that on September 12 Prince Harry made an unexpected visit to Kyiv, where he met with veterans and discussed issues of rehabilitation for the wounded.
Such visits by members of the royal family underscore Britain’s support for Ukraine and the importance of joint humanitarian and security cooperation between the two countries.
