JLo punches back directly at Ben Affleck in an exclusive interview with CBS Sunday Morning. Jennifer Lopez reveals how divorcing Ben Affleck was the best thing that ever happened to her. Are you buying this? [Applause] Welcome to Popcorn Planet. I am Andy Signar. I’m not sure if I’m buying this title. I hope it’s true. I hope this uh positivity she’s trying to exude in this interview is real. But I wanted to share these clips with you because they are pretty revealing. She finally does speak about Ben Affleck, the divorce, her Oscar chances, etc. And uh since we’ve been covering the story so much and so many of you have been following along, I thought it was pretty important to bring it to you. So, let’s get to these couple clips. I got a couple things I’m going to I’m going to bring to you. But first up, this reporter does ask her about that time period in her life. It was such a hard time in your in your personal life. How did you manage to to deal with that? Barely. Yeah, it was tough. It was a tough time. Barely. I almost thought alive myself, but I could laugh about it now. It’s just trying too much. Trying too much for me. But okay. It was It was a tough time. Yeah, it was a really tough time. And Ben Affleck is also one of the producers, right? The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artist Equity. Is that right? Yeah, that is right. Because he was really Did you guys notice something there? I just one want to go back one more moment to to to see watch closely as she shakes every every part of her body. Yeah. No, it wouldn’t have been made without Ben Affleck 100%. I will give him that. I hate him and everything else, but that what I’ll give him time. And Ben Affleck is also one of the producers, right? The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artist Equity. Is that right? Yeah, that is right. Cuz he was really I will always give him that credit. Oh, how nice of her. because he was always pushing it or no because they financed it. Uh because he was pushing and believed in it. No, it turns out it happened because she wanted it and he’s like, “Okay, baby.” And like made her dream movie happened. So I guess he is not the bad guy that JLo fans keep trying to paint cuz here, listen. He did. Yeah. Yeah. I told him this was the role I was born to play and I wanted to do it. And he was like, “Okay.” And he helped make it happen. Just like he helped make her documentary happen. Just like he tried to help push her music to happen. It does sound like Ben Affleck was pretty damn supportive through this whole relationship. Was making it kind of a refuge for you a little bit to just get out there and 100% not think about stuff. Yeah, it was to be out there and not think about stuff. It was hard not to think about stuff, but it it was like the best and the worst of times in a way because it was every moment on set and every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy and then it was like back home it was not great and it was just like, oh, you know, how do I reconcile this? Um, but you get through it. And you know, honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me. So, wait, are you happy or not happy about the divorce? It’s a little confusing. JLo, are was was he the love of your life and he left you or were you unhappy as well like with him when you came home? Getting mixed messages. What about how are you guys reading this? It did definitely still change you. Um become more self-aware. I mean, JLo finally became self-aware. A different person now than I was last year, I think. You mean after you made that whole documentary, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told a year and a half ago. You do seem like I mean, I don’t know you at all, but you seem like you’re in a good place. You seem happy and confident. I am. And that this summer was like probably the best summer I’ve ever had. You hear that, Ben? I had so much fun selling my what does she sell? A seltzer a drink. My drink thing. All the paparazzi shoots when I got uh kicked out of that that that store and when the bug came on me. I loved it. Someone was finally on me. Uh it was the best summer of my life, Ben, on all those yachts that the paparazzi took photos of. It just again sounds like she’s trying really hard. I had so much fun. I’m able to enjoy things more and be grate I’m so grateful for them that I’m able to enjoy them more and I don’t have as much pressure. It’s like when you asked about the Oscar thing. It’s like I don’t I don’t put that pressure on myself anymore. I realize that the joy is in living and these moments and really embracing life and everything that it brings to you for the lessons that it brings and then for all of the triumphs that it brings and the hard times are the lessons and you have to understand that. You have to understand that. And once you do, everything just becomes a little bit lighter and you can really really fly. And I I feel like if that hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t I wouldn’t understand that. I mean, good. That’s all true. She’s right. Just I don’t know if I believe her. Again, based on watching the documentary she and Ben Affleck made, which I’ll put at the end of this for those you haven’t watched it, go watch it again. It is it is unbelievable that documentary. Uh but yeah. Okay. Hey, she can fly again. You feel like you’re flying now? Yes, it does. It does. And I still feel like I want to I want to fly higher. I want to see more. I want to do more things, you know, and but I’m going to savor them in a way that maybe in my 20s and my 30s I didn’t. Interesting. Well, beyond just that, dummy, again, do you are you buying this? Beyond just that, there’s Oscar buzz for this film that Ben Affleck helped her make. he stepped up and made her dream project happen, it sounds like. And uh yeah, there’s been Oscar buzz about uh Jennifer Lopez, but those in the know remember there was Oscar buzz for Hustlers and she didn’t get that Oscar nomination. Not even a nomin just not even a win, but not even a nomination. Uh and she admits she got her hopes up on that. Here’s here’s her responding to the Oscar buzz. Folks are talking about hinting about Oscars and other big awards. Where do you where do you put those expectations or do you just don’t put them anymore? I don’t I learned my lesson last time and I think but also I think like the joy for me is in Did you catch that? Sorry. Wait. But also I think like the He’s literally looking down cuz he’s so bored. Oh my god. She’s looking up and he’s like Joy for me is in doing it every single moment. It’s great to be in the conversation. Yeah. Among that you’re like you’re doing work that people recognize and that they love. That’s enough. And and it’s not that you can’t want more or that you don’t want to stand up there and say thank you. Of course, we all want that. But I realized that I don’t need it. Really, JLo? You don’t need the attention or the Oscar award. H, she’s about to prove that wrong. In the way that maybe I thought when I was younger. Yeah. Not that I wouldn’t love it. I just want to do that. Not that I I’d be very grateful for that, too. Yeah. Just put that out in the universe. Grateful for all the things. That was the most honest I’ve seen her in this interview where she couldn’t she couldn’t do the fakeness anymore. She like, “No, I I still want it. Don’t just be clear. I’ll be okay if I don’t win.” But I really do want it. I’ll give her that one. I liked her being honest there because I was like, “Come on, girl. Of course you want it. Don’t Don’t be crazy.” Now, sources close to her, according to these sources on radar, they’re saying she’s just putting on a brave face of the pain because bragging about it uh is just helping her move through it. So, here’s what the sources are saying, and tell me what you think. Uh, Jennifer’s putting on a brave face, but behind closed doors, she’s hurting. She tells people the divorce was the best thing for her, but it’s also a way to protect herself. She says saying she’s thriving, making it easier to deal with the fact that another marriage has ended a disappointment. Yeah, I mean, I can’t blame her for that. I know a lot of people want to dunk on her, but yeah. Uh, another insider claims she’s trying to reframe the story by saying it was the best thing that happened, and it’s part truth, but it’s also part self-preservation. She does believe the experience changed her, but there’s no denying it’s been painful. Her friends see her crying one day and smiling the next. That’s the reality. Who doesn’t have those days? We all do. Even JLo folks can have that. So, uh, what do you think this? Are you buying it? Do you think this really was the best thing that’s happened to her? Honestly, it probably was. And I’m sure Ben Affleck is praying and hoping this is true. Like, let’s finally move on and just be amicable. It clearly doesn’t work. We tried twice. Enough.
