The Royal Family are known for maintaining a stoic appearance in public and, while there’s no official rules on it, their composed demeanour and avoidance of overt displays of emotion are pretty much tradition. But, Prince William has seemingly just defied this, sharing a heartfelt admission about his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Speaking to Schitt’s Creek star, Eugene Levy, in his The Reluctant Traveller documentary this week, the future King made a rare show of emotion. When asked about the late Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, William replied: “I do actually, yeah, I do miss my grandmother, and my grandfather.”

“It’s been quite a bit of change,” he went on, adding that he often thinks about them “not being here anymore”.

The conversation came about as William gave the presenter a tour of Windsor – on an e-scooter, no less. “She loved it here, she spent most of her time here,” he added of the Queen’s adoration for Windsor Great Park and Windsor Castle. “For me, Windsor is her.”

“Showing you around today is very much a case of trying to make sure I’m doing it in the way she’d want you to see it,” the Prince of Wales continued. “She had her horses here as well, as you can imagine that was a big deal for her so that’s why she loved it here.”

Elsewhere in the episode, William spoke of how 2024 had been the “hardest” year of his life.
