‘Windsor has become their home,’ the insider revealed, adding that their time at Adelaide Cottage had been ‘really difficult’ at times. ‘Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.’

Prince William and Kate Middleton had previously raised their family in London, living at Apartment 1A on the grounds of Kensington Palace. The relocation to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, sources close to the couple told The Daily Mail, was intended ‘to test a new location and see if it worked for them as a family’. (It didn’t hurt, of course, that the Windsor Great Park was a short drive from Lambrook, where the Wales children are currently all enrolled as pupils.) The new home at Forest Lodge is even closer to the school, just a short drive away, and would remain a convenient location should the family send Prince George to Eton College.

It was previously noted that privacy would be front of mind for the Prince and Princess of Wales when they move into their new home, which boasts a view of the Wembley Arches for FA Patron William, and a tennis court for keen player Catherine. One local explained to The Daily Mail that the Waleses’ new home is perfectly suited to avoid prying eyes as the royal children grow up. ‘The lodge is on a private road, close to a little village with a shop, a post office and a tea shop, which is mainly used by staff,’ they explained. ‘It’s about as isolated as you can get there, so you can see the attraction for them. It’s situated in a huge private chunk of Windsor Great Park, and the children can go out cycling for miles and not come anywhere near any of the local residents.’ On pain of arrest, it seems!
