Prince William and Princess Kate received pushback from their new neighbors, who are now locked out of Windsor Great Park, but according to one royal expert, it should all blow over soon.
When speaking to Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and Professor at Royal Holloway, she went over both sides, that the Walesesrequire protection and their neighbors could have been given more warning, but either way, she describes the situation as “a storm in a teacup” and it will most likely be short-lived.
Maclaran said: “I think this could have been handled better with more warning given of the intended new security zone.”

She explained: “There is certainly friction over these security decisions and it does seem that there was little advance warning of the new restrictions.”
She added: “There is also a general understanding that there is a need for greater security around Forest Lodge on account of its new occupants and that these security measures are not the fault of William and Kate.”
As Maclaran points out, it’s not the neighbors who are being kept out, its people who may be considered a threat, and if everyone is kept at arm’s length, on the other side of the gate, it will be easier for security to maintain safety and avoid mistaken identity.
Maclaran explained: “The new rule is certainly not on account of their neighbors being a threat, but rather that the security perimeter is necessary to ensure that would be intruders or terrorists etc do not have easy access to the property.”
Royal expert goes over both sides in royal rift
Maclaran went over who may be aggravated by the new rules put in place and why they’re seen as an annoyance.
The royal author said: “This means that people who were used to walking in those areas of Windsor Park (particularly dog walkers!) that are now part of this new perimeter no-go zone around William and Kate’s Forest Lodge are particularly disgruntled.”
She also went over the other side of things, why the rules are important.
She explained: “I think most people do not walk their dogs in Windsor Great Park and will understand the need for the tightened security to protect the family.”
The decision is up to the security team
According to Maclaran, the decision is up to the security team, not necessarily William and Kate.
She said: “William and Kate will obviously rely on their security provision to advise what is necessary and arrangements will be out of their hands.”
And, of course, it’s not just William and Kat, they moved to Forest Lodge with their three young children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, in which Maclaran addressed.
The Royal Holloway professor said: “Overall, I believe the public will have sympathy for these protective measures, especially given their young family.”
“In my view, this will all be a bit of a storm in a teacup and will blow over fairly soon.”
