Eric Dane Shares ALS Hospitalization That Made Him Miss Emmys 2025 | E! News
Eric Dayne struggles with ALS caused him to miss out on TV’s biggest night. The actor explained his lastminute absence at September’s Emmys 2025, sharing that he wasn’t able to present an award with Grey’s Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams as initially scheduled because he was in the hospital receiving treatment. He says of the neurodeenerative disorder in an interview with the Washington Post, “ALS is a nasty disease. I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to.” As for what exactly happened, Eric tells the outlet he lost his balance and fell in his kitchen before the show, adding, “I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.” He continues, “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought would have been a special moment. I was really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.” And while his battle with ALS can be debilitating at times, Eric doesn’t plan on slowing down his career one bit. I lost my much loved brother-in-law a couple years ago to this horrific disease. I really appreciate Mr. Dane’s honesty, integrity and compassion. I moved to another state to help my brother-in-law and sister. As one of his main caregivers, I can attest to the devastation that ALS causes. Not only does the patient suffer; dealing with the trauma, frustration and fear that the disease brings on a daily basis…but having to watch their loved ones suffer as well. Seeing the pain and fear in their eyes, as they navigate through uncertain territory…but knowing how utterly helpless they feel. My heart goes out to Mr. Dane, all of those affected by this cruel disease… and those who are there to help, support and love…
