I hate all box office discourse, it’s so braindead and so divorced from artistic merit. People just use it to justify whatever their personal feelings are about a movie.

I feel like Variety doesn’t even try to hide their agenda anymore. They’re so consistently hard on anything and everything created by marginalized artists but then turn around and run puff pieces for talentless box office bombs & racists like Amy Schumer.

Penske owns Variety and a bunch of other publications so what else do we expect?

Can people step back and realize that maybe box office numbers are so low, not because the movies are bad, but because people can’t afford to go to the movies. Last time I went to the movies, it was $22 for a small popcorn and medium drink, on top of a ticket that was already $25.
I will make it political, because it’s not that no one wants to go to the movie theatres, it’s because people are literally choosing between rent and food, never mind $40 for a movie that may or may not be good. People don’t want to risk that anymore.

I lowkey have been boycotting variety content such as actors on actors or their other videos simply because of the puff pieces they write about poc in the industry

If you aren’t a studio executive then you shouldn’t care about box office numbers. Like literally how does that impact your enjoyment of sinners or OBAA. Both great movies
