Ubisoft reportedly canceled an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ game set in the post-Civil War Reconstruction era about a Black former slave assassin who battled the emerging Ku Klux Klan due to concerns over the current U.S. political climate

    1. Sounds like a convenient excuse imo. You’re gonna scrap an entire game, all that money, from a well known & easily marketed franchise for a few fascist dick suckers? Be so serious. What pathetic little losers.

    2. As a huge fan of the series I can only say this:

      *You fucking cowards*

A game where you hunt down KKK members would have been so fucking cool

BUT GOD FORBID WE UPSET WHITE SUPREMACISTS

The same cunts who probably don’t even buy the games anyway but make 100000 click bait videos for their loser followers about why Yasuke was WOKE or why a female Shinobi was WOKE or why Japan is WOKE or why existing is WOKE or why PlayStation having black and white controllers is WOKE

WOKETY WOKE TOFU EATING WOKERATI LIBTARDS

Instead we should have games about vanilla white men who kill brown people because some sewer mutant looking slag like Asmonbronze would get upset and he might be forced to wash his hair

This would have slapped even though the last fee games have been a bit boring and redundant, a game killing klan members would become my favorite no matter the quality

    4. Ngl that sounds like it would be a banger game. Getting to see all the definitely-not-racist gamers out there malding would just be the cherry on top

Corporation wants to make money, ignores the Lost City of El Dorado to squeeze another egg from their half-dead, catatonic golden goose.

In other news, water is wet.

    6. I say this as someone who RARELY buys games anymore due to the increase in prices compared to the reduction in scale and quality of most modern releases (seriously, I have bought one new release in the last five years): I would have pre-ordered this at its most ridiculous pricing with all the bells and whistles and I would have put HOURS into it, even if the quality was not great. I have confidence that many, many of my friends and social network would have done the same. Many of us have already returned to older games where you get to fight bigots as a way to cope with the current world horrors.

But yanno, companies always wanna comply in advance because god forbid the profit margin dip a little.

    7. Reminder, Ubisoft was fine releasing a *Far Cry* game where the crazy right wing militia turned out to be correct.

      Of course they fucking did.

Edit: Also, I’m very skeptical of studios taking on topics like this.
Although Ubisoft brings in historians to help with the storytelling and world building.

Different franchise, but their political message in Far Cry 5 and 6 were….flat.

Still, a cowards move. But Ubisoft has not been known for innovation and risk taking for years.

2k did a great job with this for Mafia III (aside from that, the gameplay is repetitive lol but it’s still good).

    9. Yeah, not just a coward move, but commercially dumb too. Are they blind? Have they not seen how huge Sinners was this year?

And there you have it. Companies kowtowing to a dictator. I do wonder what it is like in America, seeing a cabal of pedophiles destroying your entire nation so a few white billionaires can burn your entire future. Id have bought multiple copies of an Assassin’s Creed where I could murder the KKK

    11. If they want me to never buy a Ubisoft game again, all they had to do was ask, but this works too. Absolute spineless cowards.

They’re going to replace it with another generic plot line where the white man saves the day so their fans won’t have a meltdown over having to play as a black man (while being educated on actual American history).

      The horror. 😒

    13. Sometimes I wonder if another Wolfenstein game comes out today, would Magat be offended by it?

If you think killing SS or KKK members is controversial, you are on the wrong side of history.

Honestly, I bet it’s more cause they did it poorly and knew they’d get criticized, rather than they’re worried about naysayers. Ubisoft sucks especially nowadays, I don’t trust them to do this kind of story at all.

    15. Hear! Hear! That would have been an amazing game set during an important part of history to come out in what will be an important part of history.

    16. What’s next? Call of Duty cancelling a game set during World War II because…. well, you know
