It’s a Wrap: Taylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl’ Calls Off Continued Overseas Rollout in Theaters. The cinematic experience — tied to the release of her new album — was originally expected to play in a slew of additional international markets later in October. Not anymore.

I mean… yeah? Why would anyone pay $15 for something they can watch on YouTube for free?
I wonder why. It made a ton of money and the reasons cited, time and language, don’t make a ton of sense.

Because it’s AI slop

honestly if she taped a little show where she was preforming the album it wouldve been received so much better than an AI slideshow lyric video
Apparently it is a series of lyrics video. Not a visual album like Beyonce or Lemonade.
It was already ridiculous to make people pay for this, but what would be the point of putting this on theaters when everything is already out for free? The lyrics videos are on YouTube, I’m pretty sure she released the track by track explanation for free as well, the mv is on YouTube too and I’m sure the bts will be posted at some point as well.
This headline makes it seem like a failure when it clearly was not. It made 3x the newest DiCaprio movie.
$34 million in one weekend when it was a glorified music video release? She successfully fleeced the Swifties again. There’s no way she considers it anything but a success.
Her and her team need to dedicate all their time to putting out more variants. 34 is not enough!
But honestly, it was some commentary from Taylor, the music video played twice and the clean versions of the lyric videos she put out. To call it a cinematic experience is just funny. Not something you needed to showcase in a theatre. Visual album? Hell yeah! Ramblings, the same music video twice and boring ass lyric videos? No.
I went with my daughters, and it was okay and a nice fun activity over the weekend. It was all of the “clean” lyrics, and it was interesting seeing the making of the music video. It was nowhere near the same level of energy of the Eras Tour film where all the kids were dancing in the aisles, but still pretty chill. All the adults were chuckling over the lyrics hahaha.
Did anyone read reviews of this thing? I was literally shocked to find out what it is, which is basically one music video (apparently played multiple times) and then a bunch of lyric videos interspersed with short clips of Taylor explaining the songs.
Have we ever seen someone do this much press for an album release and not one single performance yet?
Guessing they realized only North Americans will fall for this bullshit in high numbers, and wanted to avoid embarrassing headlines.
Swifties will buy anything. Just keep repackaging the same thing and they’ll buy it again and again.
