‘Survivor’s’ Jake Latimer SPEAKS OUT After Scary Snake Bite Sent Him Home
Is he breathing? Is he breathing? Paulo, is he breathing? Jake Latimer experienced one of the most life-threatening incidents in the history of Survivor. And now he’s opening up about the emotional roller coaster he endured. On the October 8th episode of the reality TV show, now in its 49th season, Jake was bit by a highly venomous black bandit sea crate snake while standing in the shallow ocean water near his tribe’s camp. Jake was immediately transported to the survivor production team’s base camp where he was treated by medical staff and host Jeff Propes rushed to his side. Jake, I’m here with you, buddy. So, at the moment, we’re thinking it might may have been a dry bite. Okay. Sorry, man. Oh, there’s no sorryries. The plan is just to get some fluids in him. You look at me. Just take some. Get a full set of observations. I got a kid coming. You’re in really good hands. You have a full-on medical team here. What we think has probably happened here is that it’s a thing called a dry bite. It’s bitten without delivering any venom. So, it’s basically it just said get away. And Barry, the only reason you’re taking all these precautions is it’s it’s a highly toxic venomous snake. So, we have to treat it as if worst possible scenario. So, is part of what Jake’s feeling the pain from the bite? Also, is it some adrenaline of fear? Yeah, it’s it’s a very common thing that people get from bites um from snakes, even non-poisonous snakes. The the sort of the psychological effect can actually have the same impact. Miraculously, it was a quote dry bite, which means no venom was released when the snake bit Jake, but it was still decided that he would not continue on the show in the best interest of his health and recovery. In his first interview since leaving Fiji, Jake, who was also an expectant father at the time with a pregnant wife back home, told Entertainment Weekly what he was feeling in the scary moments after the bite. “Am I ever going to get off this island?” Jake said, admitting that the memory makes him emotional. He goes on to say, “Am I again going to see my child? Ever am I going to meet my child?” And that’s when it sunk in because I had tubes coming out of me. I had oxygen masks on. Jake praised the Survivor medical team for making him feel quote safe. He also said that although he feels he has quote unfinished business on the show, he respected the decision to eject him from the game. Later in the interview, Jake revealed that although it was determined that he hadn’t been injected with the snake’s venom, he was still airlifted to a hospital in Australia for further monitoring and care. Afterwards, he was able to fly home to Canada. And the 36-year-old says he made it back just 48 hours before his child was born. God works in mysterious ways. He said, “I think that God put that snake there for a reason, just to get me home. And I hate saying that because I wanted that game so bad, but I also got to see the birth of Jax, and that’s worth a million dollars. And I was there for my wife, so it’s a blessing in disguise.” New episodes of Survivor season 49 air on CBS every Wednesday at 8:7 central. [Music]
