Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert has secured his next venture following the news that “The Late Show” will conclude its run next year.
The comedian revealed he will lend his voice to the Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” as the digital dean of students.
In the role, he will deliver daily announcements and alerts to young cadets training to become Starfleet officers, Paramount said in a press release.
Colbert announced the new opportunity in a video on Oct. 11 during a “Star Trek” panel at New York Comic Con.
“Greetings and felicitations, New York Comic Con,” the comedian said in a recorded announcement. “Tis I, Stephen Colbert. Folks, I’m sorry I couldn’t be with you in person today, but I’m a perfectionist and I just didn’t have enough bunting for my Mugato cosplay. However, nothing could stop me from sharing this exciting news.”
He continued, “I am honored to announce that my beautiful voice will be joining ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ as the digital dean of students, where I’ll get to announce things like, ‘Attention Ensign Krebs, your Talaxian Furfly has exited the replicator and is now mating with itself.’”
Colbert told fans that he is “thrilled” to be joining the “Star Trek” universe while joking that he won’t have to “spend four hours in hair and makeup everyday” since he won’t be appearing on screen, unlike his cast members.
The show stars Oscar winner Holly Hunter as the chancellor of Starfleet Academy, alongside Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti who plays the recurring villain, Nus Braka.
The cast also features Starfleet cadets Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins and Bella Shepard, plus Zoë Steiner, Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo, and guest stars Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, as well as recurring guest star Gina Yashere.
“Starfleet Academy” will premiere with two episodes on Jan. 15, 2026, Paramount said.
Following the premiere, new episodes of the 10-episode season will drop weekly on Thursdays with the season finale on March 12.
