Kate Middleton joins Prince William for unexpected Royal duty

Kate Middleton and Prince William made an unexpected appearance, surprising royal fans with their visit.

On October 14, the Prince and Princess of Wales touched down in Northern Ireland for a surprise visit.

Their unannounced trip focuses on meeting local residents, exploring innovation organizations that strive for growth, and highlighting investments that boost rural development and youth opportunities.

The royal couple kicked off their visit at the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service’s newly opened Learning and Development College in Cookstown, County Tyrone.

Inaugurated in May 2025, the facility represents the most significant in NIFRS history and provides comprehensive training for all its employees.

It serves as a potential training ground for aspiring firefighters from all over Northern Ireland, helping shape the service’s next generation.

Among its impressive features, the college boasts world class facilities like a rare flood water rescue simulator, (one of only two in the world at a fire service training facility), a replicated village, a training warehouse, a tactical firefighting facility and a barn and slurry pit.

During their visit, the Royal couple were briefed by Chief Fire & Rescue Officer, Aidan Jennings, on the college’s programs before they participated in a few training drills themselves.
