John Oliver reveals whether he’s worried about his job as late-night chaos ensues
By the way, so it’s honoring Anowin. How do you think Anowin would rate your saratoral style? I mean, as an English person, as a night, you never want to appear in front of a in any capacity as cuz you know the quietly, even if she’s not looking you up and down, somehow she’s doing it like and picking out all the floors. So, I can imagine it will hurt her eyes. So, yeah. I’m sorry. I’m I’m wearing one of the nicest suits I have and it won’t be enough. Right. Do you feel that she’ll be inwardly judging you? Yeah. Yeah. All you can hope for is inward judgment from Anna. Outward judgment is that is the bullet that I’m not interested in taking. So yeah, inward judgment. I’ll see it. I speak English expressions, right? So as an English person, you can do a lot without words. That’s true. Just a slight raise of the eyebrows just devastating. Yes, it is. Um, are you uh saving up your money cuz you’re scared you’re going to get fired anytime soon? Oh, sure. Yeah. I mean thanks for asking that as soft weird as impossible. I mean yeah like the beauty of you know living with an axo you know every day is a gift isn’t it? So but are you real like have you had talk have you had talks? No I no I would I am I am acting like everything is fine and I will act right that way up until the point that it isn’t. Do you were you shocked by I mean Jimmy Cumla was a shock but then it was kind of nice but like were you I can’t imagine how it felt as a as a awful. I was horrified. Now obviously I’m in a very different situation right that like HBO is not uh doesn’t have FCC pressures. I was absolutely disgusted by what happened to him and I’m very very glad that it’s ended the way that it has. Um, but he is such a decent man and he was those few days were very very hard on him. I’m very glad it was just a few days and uh yeah, I was thinking a lot about him and his entire staff at that time. And um what what how are you going to continue? I don’t know. Are you going to go harder or like I mean sure you sear into the skid not against it, right?
John Oliver is trying to keep it light amid the late-night show tsunami.
The “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” host laughed when Page Six asked if he has been a little more frugal since Stephen Colbert’s show was recently canceled and Jimmy Kimmel was briefly suspended.
“Thanks for asking that as softly as you possibly could,” he teased while chatting with us on the red carpet at the Only Make Believe Gala in New York City Monday night.
“I mean, the beauty of, you know, living with an axe over your head is… every day is a gift,” he added. “I am acting like everything is fine, and I will act that way right up until the point that it isn’t.”
