Meghan Markle sparked outrage during Paris Fashion Week when she posted a short clip from her vehicle while driving close to the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, where Princess Diana died in 1997.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams speculated Prince Harry would be outraged. “I suspect Harry will be horrified and extremely angry, because the video links to the most traumatic period of his life,” he said. “He would be aghast, because even though it wasn’t intentional, it was a very bad mistake.”
Richard Fitzwilliams thinks Meghan Markle should face consequences for the insensitive slipup. “Meghan simply cannot afford to behave like that, because of who she is and the fact she has made herself into a brand,” he said. “Her airily filming part of Paris, while it wasn’t intended to offend anybody and was clearly a mistake, was grossly insensitive and these mistakes hold weight.”
Social media users were outraged by Meghan Markle’s insensitivity. “This is beyond disturbing. She had nothing whatsoever to do with Princess Diana, so why is she doing it?” one person wrote on X. Said another, “Instead of avoiding those places that the late Princess Diana went to, she went and recreated them, how evil.” A third critic griped, “Why would she film the place where Prince Harry’s mother died? Moreover, why would she post it on social media for the world to see? Why?”
