Who Inherits Prince Andrew’s Former Title? Royal Expert Weighs In | E! News

So, what happens now that Prince Andrew will no longer be known as the Duke of York? A royal expert weighs in with E! News. On October 17th, the younger brother of King Charles III shared that he was making a change to his royal status due to the continued scrutiny related to his association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace, “In discussion with the king and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of his majesty and the royal family. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me.” Now, royal expert Sharon Carpenter exclusively tells E!News news that the relinquishing of the title is quote largely symbolic, at least for now, since removing his dukedom officially would legally require an act of parliament and would be more complex than this immediate action. As for what this means in terms of public appearances with the family, Carpenter states, “At this point, it is highly doubtful we will see him publicly with any senior member of the royal family for the foreseeable future.” She adds, “From this day forth, he is technically a private individual who happens to have royal lineage. As for whether another person could receive the Duke of York title, Carpenter explains, “It’s possible that in the future someone may be granted Andrew’s now former titles, but under current rules, a duked follows a male line succession. Andrew doesn’t have a son, and it won’t be passed to his daughters. It would likely revert to the crown when he dies, and at that point, the monarch could regrant the title to someone else.” Enus previously learned that Andrew’s daughters with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, princesses Beatatrice and Eugenie, will not be affected by the title change. While Prince Andrew announced Oct. 17 that he will no longer use his royal titles, including Duke of York, royal expert Sharon Carpenter explained the move is “largely symbolic” for now. Full Story: https://www.eonline.com/news/1423998/prince-andrew-royal-titles-who-is-new-duke-of-york

    1. Whoever does get to be the Duke of York next needs to clean up the reputation of this title. Prince Edward's teen son would be a good choice or Prince Louis when he is older. Or tuck it away until Prince William has grand sons.
