Mehdi Hasan at the No Kings rally: “Let me say to every Republican and conservative watching. Aren’t you the ones that said no more big government? No tyranny in America? If you believe that, what are you doing defending masked federal agents in unmarked cars bundling people off the streets…”

We have *got to* move past our main talking point being “republicans are hypocrites”, regardless of how true and right it is.

It’s not going to change their views, most of their opinions are bad faith, and continuing to focus on this point is not going to get us anywhere.

AOC’s clear, succinct statement she made recently about “I want healthcare for all, no matter if you hate me or like me” is great messaging and that’s the narrative we should focus on – what progressives trying to do to make life better.

Centering the argument around who’s more of a hypocrite is a losing talking point – leaders with a voice, like Mehdi, need to keep talking about the things that Dems/progressives are fighting for, and move away from these constant “gotcha” points that have done nothing to help progressive movements gain new followers.

At the end of the day, it’s just the wrong focus and self-serving. Do people want to focus on having the right opinion or do people want to focus on how we can stop republicans from eliminating the rights of women and LGBTQ+ folks, taking away healthcare from kids and elderly folks leading to more deaths of these groups, etc?
