It’s been over a decade since Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.

However, royal fans are just now discovering an embarrassing blunder the prince made in front of everyone on his special day. The much-loved pair, who are now parents to three children, first crossed paths at the University of St Andrews in 2001, and officially became a couple two years later.

Their engagement was announced on November 16, 2010, after William proposed on October 20, 2010 during a trip to Africa. The anticipation leading up to their wedding captivated people worldwide, with many drawing comparisons to the nuptials of William’s parents, Charles and Diana, in 1981.

Following their vows at Westminster Abbey, Prince William and Kate were met by millions of ecstatic fans lining the streets of London. They then proceeded to Buckingham Palace, where the late Queen Elizabeth II hosted a midday reception.

When it was time for the newlyweds to depart, they climbed into a vintage Aston Martin – a 21st birthday gift from the Queen to King Charles. However, despite appearing blissfully happy, many spectators may not have noticed the behind-the-scenes drama unfolding for the couple in the car.

A video clip of the moment was posted on the “quickpastfacts” Instagram page, showing William and Kate waving to the crowd from the car as they headed to Clarence House, where he resided at the time.

But the text on the video revealed, “When Prince William drove Catherine from Buckingham Palace, with the hand break still on. Even fairytales have their funny moments.”

They then went on to write in the caption of the video, “There are few moments more endearing than the day after their wedding, when Prince William, in his excitement, drove Catherine away from Buckingham Palace in his father’s Aston Martin-with an L-plate on the car and the handbrake still on yes, he later confessed he hadn’t released it in his joy!”.

Arthur Edwards, The Sun’s royal photographer later disclosed what had occurred on the BBC’s Desert Island Discs, stating, “I was talking to Prince Charles about that. I said, ‘Did you mind him borrowing your car?’ Because he loves that car. It was a birthday present from his mother on his 21st birthday.”

Nevertheless, the then-Prince Charles assured Edwards that William had sought permission before utilizing it for his wedding day. But Edwards then proceeded to highlight there appeared to have been an issue with the vintage sports car on that particular day.

King Charles then disclosed to the photographer, “Yes. Because he didn’t take the handbrake off.” Supporters were left in hysterics upon discovering this, as some flocked to the video’s caption to express their reactions, while others also noted another feature of the decorated vehicle. “Why has it got L Plates? Was he a learner?” one person questioned.

In response, another viewer explained, “They’re learners in the wedding as in new ‘learners’ in marriage. It’s a British humor for us.” Another viewer humorously disclosed, “For a moment I thought she was driving, then I remember they’re in the UK.”
