“In a 2013 Reddit discussion about anti-rape underwear, Platner commented that people worried about assault should “take some responsibility for themselves and not get so fucked up they wind up having sex with someone they don’t mean to”

i mean i agree with his policies and if you are in Maine i think you should vote for him but lets not excuse peoples racism and misogyny just because they are leftist

    2. America needs to get the Nazi’s out of politics. Both left and right. This guy needs to fuck off.

This guy was 35yo using slurs on Reddit. At a certain point, the big picture needs to be considered and the bits that make said picture aren’t looking great.

I mean like even *if* it was an accident this whole ordeal is disqualifying bc of the level of stupid required for this to happen

I was kind of with him, thinking “ok, this is credible” until he decided to blame people being upset about his tattoo on “the establishment.”

The establishment – which gave his tattoo a pass when he enlisted in the Army and when he worked at the state department – did not tell me to be upset about a candidate known as progressive having a Nazi tattoo.

And that sexual assault thing and Black peoole not tipping thing are still out there…did he address those?

I don’t want to keep giving passes to – I agree with him here – “scourges on our society” because medical care. I want to address both and surely there are available progressives who want to address both.

Why can we not address both? I’m tired. I feel like there’s a nationwide blackmail to give up on having a good government.

    6. This Nazi was a Blackwater mercenary for hire and absolutely murdered innocent people during his MULTIPLE tours in the US military like the Nazi stuff is just frosting on the shit cake at this point

    7. He’s either deeply ignorant or he’s ignorant and a nazi, so no apology should get him back into the ring politically

    8. Veterans that don’t condemn their service are simply attempting to whitewash the US military. You cannot lead a life against racism and fascism and serve for empire. Machine-gunning non-whites in order to control their countries and plunge their resources. The supposed deal is healthcare internally and death for people abroad -yet since they learn to act like psychopaths outside they then break the promises and only bring debt, higher rents and even more despair inside.

    9. Antifascist with a Nazi tattoo.

I mean, who among us hasn’t gotten a tattoo that is in direct opposition to our purported ideology and kept it for several decades?

    10. Nazi or not he’s clearly a fucking moron for getting the tattoo and I feel like Americans have enough morons in power right now

Funniest thing about this guy is him playing the whole “anti-war/anti-military industrial complex” angle after having willingly gone to fight wars in the Middle East not once, not twice, but 3 times, lmfao!

What could he have possibly learned about how bad war is the 3rd time that he couldn’t have grasped on the first 2 goes? Was he trying to unlock all the achievements on different difficulties?

Plus, it’s not just that he was a willing participants in the US military, one of the most monstrous armed outfits on Earth but joined possibly the only organization on Earth that could match the US military’s cruelty and bloodlust when he joined up with Blackwater.

I don’t fully know the lore here but I know TOO MANY Bernie bros who have become Trump supporters. In my mind it makes zero sense – but I guess the idea is on class issues they are on the left – but regarding civil rights / women’s rights etc they can’t be bothered!

    13. If “not covering up a nazi tattoo in a decade” and “saying sexual assault victims should take some responsibility” isn’t disqualifying for the left, then I truly have no hope.

      Jfc, just go away, Platner.

There is still time for other non-problematic people to file to run before the primaries. Platner is not the only person who can save Maine.

Maine, you deserve better than to settle just because someone is kind of okay. I’m a Texan and I know how hard it is to be stuck with having to vote for “okay”. We are gerrymandered up to our eyeballs but Maine isn’t. You can still turn this around and get someone great to represent Maine.

On one hand he makes a lot of good points and sounds sincere in what he says.

On the other hand he has a Nazi tattoo.

Oh, and I don’t think saying employers such as the military having never taken issue with it makes the point he wants to make.

    16. at best he’s too dumb to be fit for office, at worst he’s a plant. there’s gotta be somebody else to throw this campaign energy at this far in advance of the election

    17. i feel like i’m being gaslit by all my favorite leftist commentators about this guy. i’m sorry but how is the blackwater/nazi tattoo not enough to want to try to get behind someone else? SURELY there is another progressive person interested in running that is a normal progressive without a problematic past? surely? is this really where we’re at?

    18. Everything about this guy is a red flag, and why do I feel like if he gets elected he’ll do a John Fetterman?

Here’s the thing – I think it’s extremely important to allow grace when it comes to adults changing hateful viewpoints. We should *want* that, otherwise we’re doomed. I cheer it on.

HOWEVER, I don’t think I’d be comfortable voting someone involved in this so recently and so late in life (not that 30s is old but it’s old enough to know better).

    20. We don’t need another undercover republican to tank Democratic policies. No more fettermans, Sinemas, and manchins.
