Victoria Justice chats with Today Extra | Today Show Australia
Welcome back. This morning we are freaking the freak out with one of our favorite Nickelodeon stars, Victoria Justice. You said you were going to make me look like a supermodel. I was, but then I got bored, so I did that. After getting her start as the sassy Lola Martinez in Zoey 101, it wasn’t long before Victoria Justice became the star of her own show. day brother. After Victorious took its final bow in 2013, Victoria moved away from music and onto the big screen. But now she’s back in the studio and still making it shine. It’s taking over. And we are pleased to say that Victoria joins us now live from Los Angeles. Victoria, good morning to you. Hi. Good morning. You got him grooving. Hey, your new song we we’re grooving to Love Zombie. It’s perfect now for Halloween. You even have thrown a Halloween party to celebrate the single. tell us about the track and what inspired it. So, I wrote the song when I was 17. Um, and it somehow got leaked online and the fan reaction was so strong to it that about like a year ago, someone was sending me these Tik Toks that had over like millions of views of people saying that they wanted the song. And so, I was like, you know what, October is coming up. I’m going to re-record this song. I’m going to rewrite some of the lyrics and bring it into 2025. And that’s what I did. I released it independently and the support has been amazing and I’m just I’m super excited. That’s so cool. And your producer producer Toby Gad is obviously a longtime collaborator of yours going all the way back to your Nickelodeon days. How is it still working with him all these years on? I mean, it’s been amazing. Toby actually didn’t produce this one. Josh Cy produced it and he’s incredibly talented. I met him through Toby, but um working with Toby has been amazing. He’s behind so many huge hits like Big Girls Don’t Cry and All of Me by John Legend. And whenever I get to get in the studio with him, I always feel like I’m writing something that feels like very authentic, very me, and is like a bop, you know? So, it’s it’s been so much. It’s been so much fun. Well, I got to tell you, uh, you performed in nearly every episode of Victoria of Victorious. You’ve got a lot of fans here in Australia, here in, you know, on our team as well. How did those experiences at that time like inform your I guess your work ethic and your style and your connection to your fans? Yeah, I mean it was it’s why I think I have the work ethic that I have now. I mean I I was working very hard during those years and I think like from a young age, you know, knowing what it was like to have that sort of adult responsibility um on you and knowing like that younger kids were looking up to me, it was something I didn’t take for granted. Um, and I think, yeah, I think I’ve always been a hard worker. I think I thrive when I’m working. Um, and it’s definitely translated into how hard I go now because when I’m committed to something, I’m going to give it like 110%. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I I can’t help it. It’s kind of the way I am with everything that Well, it’s whatever you’re doing, it’s working. And what your fans of course all want to know is, will there be more music? Will there be a full album? Maybe an Australian show? Yeah, I mean I’m there’s definitely more music that I’m planning on putting out um very soon. So, I can’t wait to share that with everyone. And I’m definitely working towards an album. I think right now because I’m independent, I’m just trying to get the word out there as much as I can that I’m still making music. You’d be surprised at how many people like have no idea that I’m still doing music. So, um I’m just like trying to build up that that monthly listener count and just keep doing my thing until I eventually can lead to making the album of my dreams. Well, we appreciate how busy you are and spending time with us this morning, Victoria. Thank you so much. Thanks for having me, guys. No worries. Victoria’s new single, Love Zombie, is available now. But still to come on today Extra, Twilight fans beware.
