Kate Hudson Gets Surprised By Neil Diamond FaceTime In The Middle of Interview
What is your fashion? What is my fashion? Like uh Rox um and vintage and you know absolutely congratulations on this amazing film. What was the key to nailing these iconic Neil Diamond songs and did you get any advice from Neil himself? You know, we didn’t I didn’t meet Neil until after we had finished the the film. And it’s so funny because we I grew up in Colorado and he lives in Colorado and I’d never even met him. Uh, and I think one of the joys of making this movie was doing such a deep dive into his catalog of music because I mean there’s so much he has so much music and and and songs that I’ve never heard that are pretty amazing. One of which that I I sing in the movie and never heard the song before. It’s such a beautiful song. So, it was kind of fun to rediscover a whole other part of Neil Diamond. Yeah. And working with you, I mean, what what a dream, right? Such a dream. He’s the best. Did you know each other before filming on this project? We had met. We had done like a a workshop for a play for a musical once years ago that I don’t think ever ended up happening. Um, so we had met like throughout the years and I always we always loved seeing each other energetically. It was like he’s he’s got such good energy and and he’s so kind and and and wonderful. Um I loved working with him. I love I’m so happy I have a friend in him. You know, I feel very lucky to have met him and had this intimate experience with him. What was it like not only playing his romantic partner but also singing alongside him as well? So fun. He everything he’s full of joy. He’s a joyful person, you know. So, we were very goofy together and also like a very hard work work, you know, working man. Super disciplined. He had to learn how to play the guitar, you know, so he was constantly like, you know, trying to get it right. And and like anything, you know, when we’re working on these things. Oh. Oh, hi. Oh, it’s it’s Neil. Hi. Hey, I wish you were here. Yes, I wish you were here, but you’re in the beautiful mountains. I wish I was there, too. But it’s long enough. And uh Yeah, we’re all all waiting. Coming home with momentum. Are you feeling that they got this? And I was like, “Oh, see I’m a baseball fan.” Like we I grew up in a baseball family. So like I wouldn’t say I say you just it’s every every day at a time, you know, every day. I wouldn’t I wouldn’t I think it’s going to be a great series and to see so many great baseball like like there’s so much great baseball happening right now and watching show is like one of the great watching maybe the great baseball player of all time like how lucky are we to have him in LA and um yeah chills yeah I’m I’m excited it’s going to be an exciting series for sure absolutely thank you so much Kate [Music]
Access Hollywood spoke to Kate Hudson during the 2025 AFI Fest premiere of her upcoming film “Song Sung Blue” where she stars alongside Hugh Jackman. Kate described what it was like working with Hugh on the bibliographical musical drama that’s about a Neil Diamond tribute band. During the interview, the actress was surprised and so excited to received a FaceTime call from Neil Diamond himself. “I wish you were here,” she told him. Adding, “I’m going to see you soon.” Neil also spoke to Access via FaceTime, “I want to say hello and that I do love the movie and it’s a note that I want to go out on and I love you all for showing up and attending this ceremony…” “Song Sung Blue” will be out in theaters on December 25.
