‘SNL’ vets Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim break silence over Season 51 bloodbath
Getting to spend seven years of my time on SNL with you, one of life’s greatest gifts. Um, it’s not the easiest place to work, but you were such a huge gift. The sketches, they come, they go, they’re really fun. They can be hard. They can be things you’re not into, whatever. Ego Wodm is breaking her silence on her exit from Saturday Night Live, and she threw subtle shade at the show’s challenging onset dynamic. It all went down on Ego’s podcast, Thanks Dad, where she welcomed fellow SNL alum and best friend, Heidi Gardner. The two comedians were behind several viral characters and sketches over the years. Lisa from Tmacula got Pedro Pascal to break. This dog, this dog followed me home. I’m about to tear this thing up. And Heidi couldn’t contain herself in this Beus and Buttad sketch, which garnered 24 million YouTube views. The extras held tighter than the cast, quipped one commenter. With eight seasons under her belt, Heidi was the longest tenur female cast member before her shocking exit. While she has not publicly spoken about why she left, the post reported that her contract was not renewed. Now on her BFF’s pod, she’s opening up about the competitive nature of the famed NBC show. There weren’t a lot of times when we were able to like succeed in the way we wanted at the exact same time. I I remember just so many times being like, why can’t we be both be winning together at the same time? Ego and Heidi were two of five cast members who didn’t return in the season 51 Bloodbath along with Devin Walker, Emil We, and Michael Longfellow. While not an official cast member, John Higgins, one-third of the Please Don’t Destroy digital shorts team also left the show. His teammate Ben Marshall was promoted to the cast along with four others. Challenges aside, Ego called getting to work with Heidi one of life’s greatest gifts. Said the two formed a really deep, really fast friendship on the show, and that she’s so grateful for that time. So, maybe a buddy comedy is in their future. Let us know what you think about this season’s shakeups and the new cast in the comments below.
“Saturday Night Live” alums Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim got emotional over their “challenging” on-set dynamic at the NBC show after their shocking exits. Nwodim admitted on her “Thanks Dad” podcast Tuesday that the sketch comedy show was “not the easiest place to work” while calling Gardner “such a light in what can be such a challenging place.”
