Jesse Eisenberg announces he’s donating his kidney to a complete stranger
I didn’t realize you were a big blood donor. Yes. There was a big blood donor. There was a story going We had a big blood drive here recently and someone was telling this great story about you recently. You found out that we were doing a blood drive. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that’s true. I did one here. I’m actually donating my kidney in 6 weeks. I really am. I really am. Yes. Yeah. That’s amazing. What? Yeah. Yeah. I I don’t know why I got like bitten by the blood donation bug. Yeah. I love That’s a big jump up though. I’m doing an altruistic donation mid December. Yeah. Actor Jesse Eisenberg, best known for The Social Network and the Now You See Me films, just revealed he’s donating one of his kidneys to a complete stranger. During an appearance on the Today Show, the Oscar nominated actor casually dropped the news, explaining that he’s set to undergo surgery in mid December. Eisenberg said he’s long been a regular blood donor, and over time, that spirit of giving inspired him to take things a step further. He’s making what’s known as an altruistic donation, giving a kidney to someone he doesn’t personally know, but who desperately needs one. In the US, nearly 90,000 people are currently waiting for a kidney transplant. Non-directed donors like Eisenberg can help trigger what’s called a kidney chain, where one selfless act can help match multiple patients with life-saving transplants. Eisenberg shared that he first looked into donating about a decade ago, but only recently connected with doctors at NYU Langon Health in New York City. After passing all the medical tests, he’s officially scheduled for surgery this December. And in true Eisenberg fashion, he’s keeping it humble, calling the procedure essentially risk-f free and even ensuring his own family would be protected through a special donor voucher system should they ever need a transplant themselves. Between promoting his upcoming film, Now You See Me, Now You Don’t, and preparing for this life-changing act of generosity, Eisenberg is showing that real magic happens when you give a piece of yourself. Literally. [Music]
