Tom Daley Details Struggles With Eating Disorder & Body Dysmorphia | E! News
Olympian Tom Daly is looking back on a difficult time in his life. In an interview with Radio Times published October 27th, the former professional diver gives insight into how the leadup to the 2012 London Olympics took a toll on his health. Explaining, “It was a home Olympic games, so it was huge pressure, and I struggled with all kinds of things in the buildup to that. eating disorder issues and anxiety issues. With Tom going on to share the unhealthy coping mechanisms he used to deal with the stress, saying, “I had absolutely no idea what I was doing at the time, so I just cut out food. I used to get so hungry that I’d binge. Then when I binged, I feel so bad that I was bulimic for a while.” However, the gold medalist credits his now husband Dustin Lance Black with helping him overcome his body issues, telling the outlet, “Men weren’t meant to talk about their eating disorders back then or their feelings at all. My husband’s been a huge support in that. I think it’s a big thing in the gay world, if I’m honest. Some people have very unrealistic body expectations. [Music]
