Scene from ‘Eden’ of Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas, and Vanessa Kirby goes viral for their ‘German’ accents. The film is about disillusioned Europeans settling on a remote, uninhabited island in the Galápagos

    1. Honestly the writing and directing here is just as bad, they each just state an opinion then stare off into space, the actors might as well all be on set by themselves talking to tennis balls jfc

    2. my first thought was “how bad could it be?”

immediately upon viewing “wow that’s remarkably bad”

Sweeney’s accent in the beginning is so atrocious,I couldn’t help but laugh. It was giving high school play rather than a Hollywood film. And then, after about 30 minutes, she drops the accent altogether. Then it comes back later.

Ana’s accent wasn’t great either, but at least it fit her character who is someone with delusions of grandeur.

I have been living in Germany for 3 years (Latino) and none of the Germans I speak English with have anything close to those accents. I mean, none of them will say “Oscar Wilde” but “Oscar Baild-e”

It’s so bad it’s legit hilarious, I love this! Can we nominate them for the razzie?

    6. This is so horrendously bad its funny. The accents, the camera directions, the weird looks between characters speaking. 😂

    7. This is the impression you hear in the wild when people mimic what they think a German accent is. Hell, even Id probably doing something similar because I don’t know how to act. But these people have unlimited resources to perfect the accent. So it’s crazy this is the outcome of that

    8. I’m not even German and can categorically say my English ear immediately picked up on these being terrible accents.

You have a million seasons of Heidi Klum doing reality TV to study, and this is what you end up with? Honey, nein.

What the fuck. Have any of them ever heard German? Are Americans genuinely fooled by this?

Are these supposed to be germans speaking german to each other? Then just speak english with no accent. Germans don’t think they have a german accent.

    12. I have to rant lmao. Why do Hollywood (American?) movies do this? I don’t know about this movie, maybe it’s a different thing here, but in 99.99% of cases the characters don’t need to have accents. If my assumption is right and they’re German and supposed to be speaking German, I can imagine that, no need for the accents!

The worst example of this is Child 44 which to me was a good movie with an insane cast. They’re playing Russians in Russia. Why are they speaking English with a Russian accent??? Just speak normally, I understand they’re Russian! Speaking English with a Russian/German/whatever accent just makes it seem like they’re randomly talking in English not their own language.

If I’m remembering correctly, Pianist didn’t do this, everyone had their own accent and I don’t think anyone had a problem with imagining they’re speaking Polish among themselves.

I hope I’m making sense, this was harder to explain than I thought lol

    13. A group of Germans in the middle of nowhere… Why on Earth would they speak English?!?

I’m saying this as a German with all my lack of humor and natural soft pronunciation…
