More proof that Obama is irrelevant and doesn’t want to help bring about a Democratic party that will break with corporate control.

    2. Another status quo liberal that is closer in beliefs to Zionists, capitalists and centrists (dare I say Republicans, too?) than actual leftists.

Won’t endorse but offers to be a “sounding board”? Yeah right. Do we really need to know who war criminal Obama would endorse?

    4. He bailed out the banks at the expense of the American people who the banks screwed over. He was never a president for the people, he was never going to endorse Mamdani…… He doesn’t want to bite the hands that feed him after his presidency, with million dollar deals to make documentaries no one watches…..

Obama was also against marriage equality because of his religion until 2012. By that point the majority of Dems supported it. He’s not going to go against the establishment.

    6. Democrats learn one thing from history challenge…

Look, I really, really, really want to think that 2026 or 2028 will be different. But leadership doesn’t seem to have learned a single lesson from prior losses. They are, as a whole, waffling and whiffing instead of shoring up grassroots support and headlining the resistance. @ DNC: your next centrist milquetoast candidate is probably going to lose, too. I hate that it isn’t enough to _not_ be a raging pedophile/conman/racist/rapist, but progressivism is not your enemy. Change is not nearly as unpopular as your current inaction.

*Why exactly* are democrats attempting to sabotage a democratic candidate after the republican election massacre??

    8. It’s certainly more than Jeffries and Schumer have done to support the democratic candidate running for mayor in the city they are supposed to live in.

    9. Obama, please go away. You had your moment. You did some good things. But now is not your time. Your politics are not what today’s environment calls for.

The neutrality of power-hungry, centrist democrats is something that still needs to be stopped.

    11. I’m sorry but he needs to go away completely. He was endorsing a former CIA operative in Virginia where he made his speech. A candidate who is one of those Do Nothing Democrat centrist.

Seems like an intentionally divisive narrative.

      From NYT yesterday:

“Mr. Obama spoke admiringly about how Mr. Mamdani has run his campaign, making light of his own past political missteps and noting how few Mr. Mamdani had made under such a bright spotlight.

…Mr. Obama has not formally endorsed Mr. Mamdani, in keeping with his general practice of avoiding any intervention in municipal races since he left office.”

Mamdani has support from leftists *and* liberals, regardless of whether or not Schumer and Jeffries want to admit that. I think that’s a good thing.

Obama is not the future of the Democratic Party. If he plans to stand in the way of progress then he can keep to himself.

If anyone can name the last time Obama officially endorsed someone for a municipal election, I’ll be impressed.

He signaled his support. He doesn’t normally even do that for municipal elections.

This is showing support for Mamdani. This is not a diss.

    15. Was this in the same speech where he pulled out his “I told you so” scolding routine about Trump again? Great stuff. This is how we win etc

To be honest, I’m not sure why people are upset about this – would it even be good for a grassroots progressive candidate to have Obama’s endorsement? That might taint the campaign for some people. A private a supportive call is probably the best option here.

THIS is why I’m struggling with the Democratic Party. They don’t care about the people, just the party.

    18. Obama is part of what’s wrong with the democrat. He was just really good at convincing people he wasn’t.

    19. He will physically fly to New Jersey to canvas for Sherrill but won’t announce an endorsement for Mamdani make it make sense!!!!

    20. He’s a capitalist. That’s all Americans should know about their Democrats and Republicans. All paid off capitalists.

    21. thewhiteoftheeyes on

I don’t think people read the article?
To me it reads as Obama supports mamdani, just hasn’t officially endorsed him ? He called him to express his support. I’m not an American citizen so please let me know if I’m misinterpreting something. It is a real shame if Mamdani isn’t getting any vocal endorsement by the democratic party so far but this news should count as something positive, no?

He called to give orders. Obama was in the same circles coming up and let himself get co-opted. Now he’s trying to do it again. Honestly I haven’t seen much from Zohran that shows he can resist the urge.

    23. Obama is too busy working for Netflix and doing speaking engagements to care about us peasants.

    24. Loser ass behavior. Yes to liz Cheney and aipac and no to who didn’t fit their mold of neoliberal bullshit.
