Dancing With the Stars’ Andy Richter Addresses Weight Comments

Andy Richtor is getting candid about his looks. After sharing he’s lost weight during season 34 of Dancing with the Stars, the comedian reflects on the public fascination with his body size throughout his career, dating back to his 1993 debut as Conan O’Brien’s sidekick on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He says on the November 4th episode of SiriusXM’s The Three Questions with Andy Richtor podcast, one of my standard lines is, “I didn’t know there were so many ways to call someone fat. Cherubic Rotund. It was gling to me at the time. While the 59-year-old notes that he would use his appearance as a quote comedy trope, he humorously points out that his critics can’t seem to focus on any of his other qualities. He jokes, “They say nothing about my right-handedness, about my Caucasian ethnicity, about my blue eyes. They don’t say anything about my good, strong teeth, but they have to mention that.” So, when Andy was offered a slot on Dancing with the Stars, the health benefits that would come from the rigorous training schedule were a factor in his decision to sign on, even if he was hesitant at first. He said on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast back in September, I didn’t want to do it, but then I thought, “No, I need to do this. I need I need to do this like just to get moving.” And and I it got me to go to the gym and do cardio, which I loathe. uh started to do a lot more stretching just to kind of prepare myself. And the hours of dance rehearsals have certainly paid off. So much so that Andy’s wife, Jennifer Herrera, commended his commitment to the show’s demanding schedule. She wrote on Instagram October 22nd, “So proud of how much improvement he’s made through the weeks and the obvious health benefits. Working out 7 days a week, 4 hours a day, even when he’s sick, will make someone shine from the inside out. [Music]
