a Miss Piggy movie. Miss Piggy is finally getting her star moment, according to Jennifer Lawrence. The iconic Muppet Diva and love interest of Kermit the Frog is set to have her very own movie. The Hunger Games actress shares that she and her longtime BFF Emma Stone are producing the film with Tony winner Cole Escola, who is set to write the screenplay. Jen spills the Muppet news on the November 5th episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers Last Culturistas podcast. And the host’s stunned reaction to the announcement is basically all of us right now. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it. So, I’m speechless. And Jennifer and Emma won’t be behind the scenes. When the hosts ask if they’ll also be featured in the film, the actress responds, “I think so. We have to.” Later that same day, Jennifer spoke with Jimmy Fallon about how the idea came to be, telling the late night host, “During lockdown, one of my good friends who is not in the industry, she was like, you know, it would be so funny if Miss Piggy got cancelled.” She continued, “And that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning of like, wait, there hasn’t actually been like a feminist Miss Piggy starring movie.” While no estimated release date has been shared, the announcement comes alongside more recent Muppet news as they celebrated their 70th anniversary earlier this year.
