Rami Malek chased down role for ‘Nuremberg’
What did you know about um about Nuremberg before you started doing this movie? I think I knew as much as anybody did who studied history. I didn’t know uh that the story existed. I read the book, The Nazi Psychiatrist that Jack O’High wrote. And I was immediately taken by that story and knew it would make a fascinating film and I chased down that film. Did you really? Yeah. Did you How How did you chase it down? Did you like put yourself out there? I really want to do this. I put myself Yeah. Yeah. I put myself out there and I I’m sure there were a number of other actors up for the role and but I really tracked it down and I fought for it. It felt good to get that that moment reminded me of my youth when those small jobs would come in and we were just so related and just to to have that emotion still feel that it was that that it merely existed that it hadn’t died enough to tell me wow it’s a magical art form is exceptionally profound and you have a story like did you know had you read much about Nuremberg before you signed on for this? No, no, I mean I you know high school history class, right? So no, I didn’t know a lot of it. I don’t think anybody know I mean I mean not a lot of people know this was the first international tribunal or the first time a film footage was used as evidence. Uh yeah, there’s a lot of a lot of stuff I didn’t know. What was the thing that surprised you the most? that surprised me the most. Um that that that the the Nazis had their own council that um well I didn’t know there were psychiatrists. I didn’t I didn’t know that you know Doug Kelly was hired to determine the the mental or physical well-being of those prisoners. I didn’t know any of it. It’s all a big surprise to me. Um, what’s it I still watch Mad Men and top three show of all time and I I think that’s like for a lot of people. I What’s that like to have been on like literally it’s one of the greatest shows of all time. Oh, it was such a good time for all of us and we knew pretty early on that it was I wouldn’t say special. We didn’t know that. just how good it was and how good the writing was and how it wasn’t getting often times in television the the the quality drops out because of the pace that you have to produce it and it didn’t ne it never happened it was always I mean credit to Matt Winer you know he’s a great writer uh last question um again I also watch Sex of the City over and over again um after you did your episodes were you getting a lot of weird looks in the street like I imagine someone asked my my if my parents were still alive because they said they can’t be. He never would have done that if his parents were still alive. That’s the the Yeah. I wonder if the world is still as prudish as as then. How long ago that was 15 years ago or something? Yeah. I don’t know. In a weird way, it is and isn’t. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Strange. [Music] Thank you. [Music] Thank you. [Music] [Music] right here, folks. Thank you. One more. Thank you. All right. Right here, gentlemen. Right here. Thanks, you guys.
